Hardware [Quick Question] Hardmod NAND restore?

Once I get my N3DSXL properly hardmodded, how would I restore a NAND backup?

Connect it to a compatible SD reader, and use win32diskimager to read/write to the NAND.

I'm just confused because all the videos/images I've seen show the use of a NAND.img file. Can I directly restore a NAND.bin or do I have to convert it?

Rename extension or in win32 use the drop down and select the * to show all files.
