I think you mean AKAIO 1.5, their is actually AKAIO 1.6 RC1 (AKAIO is an Acekard alternative firmware) Yes you have to use some sort of work aroundleet said:

You have to buy an acekard 2i, which is the acekard that is compatible with dsi's and dsi xls. Here's a few places where you can get one.

Each one of those stores that i listed sells genuine acekard 2i's at a pretty low price. I got mine from simply mods in less than 3 days, so I would recommend them. The other ones are highly reputable and respected as well though.
Currently only 1.4 exists, and simplymods.com flashes it for you so its one less step you have to take to get it working on a dsi. Any site gbatemp recommends sells real quality acekard 2i's, so no need to worry.
