Hacking Question about using pokemon AS save file with retail rom rip

So I'm up to the second gym on pokemon alpha sapphire using a US rom from the internet. I just bought alpha sapphire because I want to play it online legitimately with my own header or whatever. Can i just rip the rom off the retail cart and use my current save with that rom? or is there some kind of conversion that needs to be done? Im on sysnand 4.5 and emunand 9.2 or 9.5 I cant remember

I'm pretty sure that's not possible with Gateway, I know you can extract ORAS savefile with PowerSave and inject it into the ROM, but I dunno if it works the other way around.
