Hacking question about swapping HDD's with a CFW PS3

Sorry if this is a dumb question but will I have to put CFW on my PS3 again if I swap HDD's? I wanna get a bigger one but I wasn't sure if I had to do anything special before swapping them. I don't wanna buy an HDD just to find out it can cause issues.


Also is they're an easy way to transfer files from the old HDD to the new one?

You pretty much has to re-install everything I believe, you cant simply just clone and resize the drive.

Just reinstall your CFW via USB

Back up your ps3 to an external HDD. There is an option for that in the settings. Then restore your backup so you won't have to reinstall everything.

Depends on if you have a nand or nor console. If you have a nand console you won't have to reinstall the CFW but you will need to reinstall all of your apps/games and saves if you back them up.

EDIT:
If you back up all the games and apps via ftp and back up your saves via usb this would be a lot quicker then backing up the entire system to an external USB drive I believe. But if you have psn packages installed I don't think these can be backed up via ftp and you would have to use the backup/restore option.

You could also just get an external and use it although it won't play PSN games.
