Hacking Question about how to organize files on Cyclo

Hey guys, new to the forum, as you can surely tell. my question is probably one that can be answered in a single sentence and has more than likely been asked and answered time and time again, but after countless fruitless searches I decided to bring it up.

I ordered a cyclo from stuff4kids and when it shows up I'm wondering

in the root file of the memory card, will i need to make a folder titled say "nds roms"
or do I just put the roms on the root directly, ie newsupermariobros.nds right on the root?

my other question is how do I know if my card is formatted properly/how do i format it.

i think I understand most everything else

my plan once i receive the card and 8gb stick is to:

1. copy new firmware onto the memory card and boot it in the cyclo confirm the update etc,

2. Once that is done copy the nds roms I have (downloaded from nds-roms.com, legitimently) to the root either in a folder or alone based on how my question is answered

3. Copy other emulators ie nes ds.nds to the root with a seperate folder for those respective roms (i've been paying some attention

)

4. Boot up my cyclo ds and pray to the heavenly father that it works properly.

hopefully that makes a good degree of sense.
let me know if there are flaws in my plan.
and thank you already, i've seen from looking over the posts here that the community is excellent and diverse.

Here's how I organize my card + some of your questions answered

Oh; just make sure not to stick anything you want to use in the "CycloDS" folder.

wow, that may be the most helpful thing I've found so far

a new question arises though.

on my computer I've already downloaded the roms I want to use
and they're in the format in which they came which is like

(folder)newsupermariobros --- new super mario bros.nds

do I need to take just the .nds files and put them into

media/dsroms

or would it work to have media/dsroms/newsupermariobros/newsupermariobros.nds

and say

media/dsroms/metroidprimehunters/metroidprimehunters.nds

damn, that is probably really confusing, hope someone understands
my apologies for being terrible with the computer lingo.

Well, all you need is the .nds file, so you can cut it out of the newsupermariobros foler. Might aswell have tested it though ^^

Just drop the .nds file anywhere except the "CycloDS" folder.

(I like to rename my files and place them all in the same folder, whatever that might be, though.

alright, thanks alot guys. I appreciate the kind responses as well, most places you'd probably get flamed for asking a simple question like that. I really do like this forum. I wish I could contribute more but my knowledge of computers/programing etc is fairly slipshod. I can play a mean guitar though if there's ever a place for that here I'd kindly lend my advice. lol.

expect many more ridiculous n00b questions from me. lol.
