Hacking Question about Hermes uLoader

I'm fixing a Wii for a friend, and his disc drive is totally burned and not under warranty.

I know Hermes can run games via USB DVD drive, but can it rip them as well?

yes uLoader can rip games, might i recommend you using a FAT32 formatted drive and use WiiFlow and CFG Loader ???? Back when i was using a WBFS formatted drive uLoader was quite the Loader for all my Games

clarify:

His disk drive does not work at all? how do you plan to back up the ISOs for game play?

If you can get your hands on a softmodded wii with a working disk drive, you can use a usb loader to backup games to play off of the hard drive, if not you'll have to buy one of these and rip them from your computer. You could also download the ISOs off the interwebz however I can't post useful links as it's against the TOS

edit: OH I see what you mean, you're trying to use an external DVD drive to rip the game via your Wii. no, that's not possible. buy one of those LG drives and use your computer if you want to do that.
