Right, use cart_save if you have a DLDI-compatible slot-2 device with GBA compatibility, and use Rudolph's GBA backup tool if you have a slot-1 device. If the game uses SRAM for saving, you can also use Eepinator to back it up to a slot-1 device, though must dump it twice for it to work for some reason.

I've been playing about with various methods in an effort to extract my final fantasy tactics save file from an original cart, but have not yet managed to extract anything that works.

If it's any help to the OP:

Method 1 - Try GBALDR, hold R2 whilst loading, this will extract the ROM and .sav file. My FFTA save didn't work though (I'm assuming this could be because it's not an SRAM save).

Method 2 - EEPINATOR, seemed to work well, but as far as I can gather only takes SRAM, so didn't work for me.

Method 3 - Use cart_save (download from this site). Requires you to hot-plug between 3-in-1 type device and actual gba cart. Again, I didn't get a working save file from this.

How would I use any of these programs? And how would I restore a save?

Also, is there any way I could possibly save the old AR? It boots to the title screen, then freezes.

That's because the 3in1 is not DLDI-compatible as it has no filesystem.

We may have a problem. All of us are assuming you have some sort of homebrew equipment, when you didn't state whether you did or not. Do you have a Supercard or M3 or R4 or anything like that? Heck, for that matter, do you have a DS or just a GBA?

Then I'm afraid I don't know how to help you, sorry. I don't have any experience with Action Replay devices, either the save backup tools or the cheating tools.

@BigOnYa, Maybe. Depends if Nintendo wanted to expand the lifespan of the console. But with every console that they release, it usually gets discontinued after 10-12 years.

Support from big n may stop aka new firmwares, but devs will prob continue making games for it as long as sales are good.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
New firmwares are only there to prevent piracy/softmodding hardware, they do not "enhance the user experience" as they claim so on and so forth. And if they decide to add new features to the system via firmware updates, then it's quite rare.

Games are still released on PS4\ XboxOne, so I imagine will be same scenario.

Currently we don't know what's happening at all, it's up to our imagination to decide (especially via IGN and other sources).

I have a feeling big N has a extra trick up they sleeve to prevent piracy this time w Switch 2. (Lotus 4 maybe) So the new games can't be dumped, even w a dump tool. (Mig dumper)

It would have to be extra security measures in the Switch 2 gamecarts that will be different from the OG Switch carts. So, for example, Switch 2 gamecarts will not work with the Switch, because it has a different ASIC. Game partitions and layout to a Switch ROM will be the same, but has extra flags in the ROM header info that only the Switch 2 will recognise.

When I owned my pizza place many years ago, we didn't have a cash register at all, every employee was given a "bank" of small bills at start of shift. Then everyone pocketed the money and made change, and I'd cash everyone out at end of shift. One time we had a gunman come in to rob me and wanted to know where's the cash register. I told him we don't take cash, only credit, and he left with nothing. Cops caught him even.

My wifeys aunt gave her some gold coins in her will when she passed last year, and the tax man was gonna tax her a gift tax on it, but our accountant said if she sells the gold and put that money into a 5 year CD, it will be untaxable. So she did, and now IRS saying they want a income tax on the gold coin sale. Damn taxman always greedy.
