I've never tried, but I believe that is the case.
I'd either go for HDD or SMB.
I think 2TB is the maximum for sd cards still & any you see for sale are probably fake. But it's also not a great method.So, one can use SD cards/FireWire devices until 2TB?

I've not used firewire on ps2, but my understanding is that the code is basically unsupported & probably doesn't work well.
AFAIK nobody has bothered to add ilink support to popstarter & I can't see it happening now.And it as well as i.LINK doesn't support PS1 games, right?
