It's why I try to give suggestions as I go. It's hard to make things sound informal sadly, but we work with what we can get. Playable and understandable first and foremost.

What might help at least is that if you can stand to listen to the Japanese, the way they speak can usually convey if a character is more relaxed or not. Or at least. I can, ahaha.

I have checked out the new patch as much as I can and decided to release it.

It has the font fix and many fixes for typos, grammar and bugs that I and others have found.

LPR Patch v0.2.2
(download)

I will update the screenshots sometime today along with the records at romhacking.net since we get some traffic from there for this patch.

Enjoy

Tried it, and it works fine!

I have actually found that while I prefer playing at 2x window size, dropping the resolution down to 1x will actually remove the artifacting that's present in the text, if it's too big. Hooray!

Hey guys, I am new here but I am very interested in this patch. I originally went looking for an English patch so I can play an English version of the uncensored La Pucelle, so I plan to get La Pucelle Ragnarok from a website like Play Asia or something. I have some general questions, please forgive me if they have already been addressed(which I'm sure they have). First and foremost, is this English translation going to be able to be used on an actual La Pucelle Ragnarok UMD PSP game? If so, how do I download this patch onto a PSP so it works with the UMD game? Also, when do you guys think this English translation will be completely done and available to download? Or at the very least, the main game(not the bonus)? I have seen the pictures and the text font does not bother me, but I am curious, are you basing the translation off of the original censored North American version of La Pucelle?

Again, sorry for these dumb general questions, I am rather new at game translations. I don't know much about them or how they are done.

1) I'd figure it might be hard to patch the UMD directly, but I do say, legally, that you should support the game makers by buying the game if you're well and able to. I own the physical version as well, myself, and I enjoy having it. (I also own Makai/Phantom Kingdom Portable, which is another game I wish could be translated.) You may need to find the iso, but Chep has put down which version exactly you'd need. Just google it.

2) The main game is, for all sense of the word, complete and playable right now. Chep is currently working with Sardine-Queen to translate the bonus chapters and extra dialogues. It's entirely playable right now by all sense of the word, other than some proofreading required (which I'm assisting with as I go through the game.)

3) Yes, the main game translation is based off of the original uncensored NA version of La Pucelle. However, as far as I know, the gist of the script between both the Japanese version and the American version are basically the same. The main points of censorship in the NA version of La Pucelle mainly had to do with religious imagery and smoking, which tend to be weird points when it comes to Western standards. I think as far as the main story goes, that will be unchanged, unless if Sardine-Queen makes any suggestions (since she's the one who's handling the translation of the Overlord Prier chapters).

It's better to ask than to assume! Just enjoy the game when you can, okay?

Thanks for the answers! All I want(which is hopefully possible) is to be able to play La Pucelle Ragnarok in English on my psp, and NOT on a computer psp emulator. If this is possible, how hard do you guys think it will be? I am not very tech-savvy, but I can follow instructions.

People have created livepatches, but I assume it's not especially easy. So it will depend on if some 3rd party decides to convert this "physical" patch to a livepatch, or if it is so easy as to be a quick job for the creator. I would expect that it will stay as an ISO patch, though, since it was conceived as such and it's probably not terribly easy to convert between the two styles of patching.

I don't believe La Pucelle is a particularly large game, though, so I don't think it would be too hard to rip your UMD and use this one game in ISO form.

EDIT: Oh, haha, I've had hacked PSPs for so long that I didn't even think about this: Livepatches themselves run as plugins, so you'd have to use a hacked PSP anyway. So there is relatively little benefit to creating one from an existing patch, especially since UMD drives probably have a more limited lifespan than the memory contacts.

Livepatches are basically things you can put onto the UMD, I guess? Just to clarify for me.

A plugin runs which patches the memory/game as it is used. So the text is patched "on the fly," i.e. live. But, as my edit just said, it's pointless if the goal is to not use CFW.

Kind of the equivalent of CWcheat (or, for past generations, gameshark, game genie, etc) if you had ten thousand+ codes to change much of the game. Probably much more than that since you also might be patching in altered graphics.

EDIT: As an example, I think there are livepatch.prx patches for both KH: Birth by Sleep Final Mix and Final Fantasy Tactics: WoTL. I assume there are many more games with that style of patch, though I haven't really looked into it.

Hmm, I see. But really, it sounds like Chep's current patch will run on a PSP through modding and an iso, and I think that's basically what Seraph wanted to be clear on, regardless.

I am currently running the patch on an ISO on my psp. I have softmod my PSP-3000. I can confirm that the patch does work on physical hardware but you will have to figure out how to do it. It is not hard. Search google or this forum and people have posted guides to follow.

The other piece of good news is that I may another person who is going to help with the translation. Still working out the process but I figure two is better than one.

You cannot play the patched game straight from the UMD (unless you have a virgin UMD and a UMD burner :P)
You will need a CFW to play the patched iso.

The legal process would be:

1. buy the game.
2. put the umd inside the psp.
3. on recovery menu change USB device to "UMD disc"
4. Connect the PSP via USB, copy the iso to your PC.
5. Apply the patch.
6. Copy back the patched iso to your psp ISO folder.
7.Play

PS: No need the physical umd anymore.

So just a little update...

We have gotten the Disgaea scenes translated and inserted into the patch. I plan to play test it and then hopefully this weekend release a patch with it in it. The patch will also have some more bug, typo and NPCs fixes that I have made.

Awesome! Look forward to it! I've delayed a little bit on my going through the game (Bravely Default happened.), but I'm gonna try to get back into it soon enough.

You will laugh... I also got a copy of Bravely Default but no 3DS. I had pre-ordered it months ago planning to get a 3DS before the game came out. So I now have a Collector's copy of the game with no way to play. I will need to remedy the situation soon once I have enough money for a 3DS. I am suppose to get a bonus at the end of the month so hopefully it can go toward a 3DS.

Good luck getting one! And good job getting the Collector's Edition. I got it too, and boy was I lucky when I decided to order it when I did. No one else can find the thing anymore!
