Add-ons like the Move are intended to increase the life cycle of the PS3 and re-vamp consumer interests in the device.
Aside from devices like the Kinect and Move there really aren't any new leaps and bounds in technology applicable to consoles that would really benefit the creation of an entirely new next-gen console. Blu-ray is still blossoming and has a lot more time to really saturate the market. Sony can still ride the PS3 out for awhile with a few little revisions here and there like every console does.
If any console has a next leap to make it would be Microsoft with the addition of Blu-Ray or even an attempt at taking it to the obvious next level of digital media. I don't see that happening anytime soon either though. The Kinect has brought a nice boost to consumer interest in the Xbox and has in turn extended its life span. I'm not sure that the Move has done much of the same for the PS3 but it certainly buys them some time.
You also have to understand that the typical life span of consoles has increased with the ability of the manufacturers to apply firmware updates. You can't judge a consoles life span by the ones of the past like the delay between the PS1 > PS2 > PS3. Updates that used to require an entirely new console to be manufactured now just require a download or update on a game disc.
With all that being said, it's not to say that a new console with new technologies couldn't be produced soon, it just doesn't seem likely or worthwhile with what's currently available technology wise.
Blu-ray will not happen for other consoles, it a SONY product.
Also the Xeon processors used in the console along with the Blu-ray, where also part of the marketing strategy.
If they would sell a lot of PS3's the Xeon and Blu-ray players would get their market share the easy way, and interest other hardware company's.
A lot of people also think the Wii games are pressed on DVD. They are not. They are Nintendo's own format Wii disks and can hold 4.37 GB ( a dvd can hold 4.7 GB ).
Nintendo refused to buy the DVD license.
Blu-ray is a SONY product, cleverly used in their console, hoping it will become a media standard.
We all know how that turned out.
As a console I think the PS3 won't last another 5 years.
You do realize that saying "Blu-ray will not happen for other consoles, it a SONY product." is just like saying "Compact Disc will not happen for other consoles, it is a Philips product" or "DVD will not happen for other consoles, it is a Toshiba product". I realize Philips and Toshiba are not currently making consoles under their brand but just because SONY is the one who manufactured the Blu-Ray doesn't mean that another console won't come along with that as their standard media. While I would agree that it's not as likely due to the fact that the next logical step would be digital media.
As for the PS3 lasting another 5 years... I can't really say. I would lean towards no but who's to say for sure.
EDIT: Also, technically CD's are the work of Sony and Philips so you could even say that others have used a "SONY" product in their console. (I'm also fully aware of James Russell's involvement in the creation of the CD)
