Hacking PS3 Hacking Scene Seems Stalled?

Maybe it's just me but, now that Sony has released the dogs (lawyers), the scene seems stalled. Sony has allready released a 3.60 OFW and devs hadn't even gotten into 3.56 OFW yet, that points to Sony running offense on code. Devs that publicly release their ID getting their homes raided by the police, and sued in court again; Sony running offense. It allmost seems like sony had a contingencey plan in place for if, or when they got hacked; and so far it looks like it's working (at least from my perspective).

Originally I had thought that the PS3 would follow a 360 like path of hardware/firmware hacks (due to the fact that online game play is a major focal point) but when team failOverflow broke out, I changed that opinion to that of the Wii (software exploits). Now that I have seen how Sony has responded to it's problem, I wouldn't put it past them of going after people for modding their own consoles.

I remember hearing rumors of C4eva writing firmware for the PS3 BR drive I wonder if that ever transpires, if it would help the scene get off the ground?


Dont get me wrong I'm not pulling for Sony, it just seems like the Wii scene blew up way faster.

No one just wants to do anything right now since Sony's still on the hunt, but once they finish up or whatever then the scene will start exploding again.

u can do w/e u want with 3.55 so there is no need to mess around more.

Many would argue that there's a need for homebrew on every game console/handheld device. It's even more important on the PS3 because it has much more powerful hardware than, say, the Wii, so the possibilities are greater. I've heard rumours of a homebrew channel project like with the Wii, but I've yet to see any confirmation.

As for hacking beyond 3.55... there's an effort:reward ratio to consider. I've been hearing on other forums that it's not overly difficult to hack 3.60, but 3.60 doesn't really offer much incentive to the scene other than getting back PSN, so not many people are willing to put the effort into trying to hack lv0.2. Plus there's the whole Sony on a lawsuit rampage thing going around with them targetting all the CFW creators, but that doesn't seem to be getting far.

When there's a good number of games that require 3.6X to play, we'll probably see more hacks coming out, although probably not from the people who brought us 3.55 CFW.

Actually there is, but it's mostly Linux orientated. And there are a couple PS3 piracy scenes, but nobody cares about them.
