maybe 20 pages before someone noted we should make a new topic, a good idea?
I think it is, sometimes the occasional person posts his/her DAT, and that was the original intention of this topic. This topic is more Rayder's cheat DAT topic now
It's also cluttered with childish flames, for which a warning could be stated in the new topic opening.
I mentioned something along those lines a few pages back. If a new topic was created, it should have links to the editors that are capable of manipulating the dat. Some pics would be nice too. Maybe even have instructions (or links to instructions) on how to use the editors. Teaching people to use the editor is much better than just providing a dat. It would enrich the knowledge of the entire interested community and maybe even yield a dat that is so large, we can't even put it in the R4 anymore. It would turn into a reference dat that you copy-and-paste codes out of and into your own custom dat for only the games you actually play.
I never intended this to become MY thread or MY dat. I wasn't looking to be popular or infamous. I just simply followed the instructions of the thread title. It is inevitable that one day I will no longer be able to update the dat anymore. When that happens, it will likely be somewhat instantaneous and with little warning other than an announcement here. When that time comes, I will attempt to pass the dat on to someone else who will continue to maintain it. We'll see how that goes when and/or if that time ever comes.
I don't have any current intentions of stopping the updates for the time being, but you never can tell what will happen in the future. The little bit of webspace I'm using to host the dat has been working for the last 7-8 years, but that doesn't mean it couldn't stop working tomorrow.
Or it could be that I get an actual job and no longer have time to play around on a pet project, such as this dat. I've been slacking real hard on the job hunting thing. That has to change very soon.
If the mods/admin ever tell me to stop providing the dat. That will end it right there.
If I start incurring SERIOUS legal action because of the dat, that will cause it to end.
If too many coders start telling me to remove this-or-that code, it will render the dat useless and this pet-project of mine will stop at that point.
There are many factors that could come into play to stop me from continuing to maintain this dat, but until one of those factors presents them self. GAME ON!
One thing that really needs to be addressed in the dat is non-working codes. Codes that just don't work need to be removed. The dat is getting really large as it is without containing a bunch of codes that don't work. I don't test the codes I add, so I don't know what codes work and what doesn't until I attempt to use one in a game, which is rare. I'll rely on you guys to point me to bad codes to be removed. We need to come up with a dedicated group of members to work together to determine and remove bad codes. I can't possibly do it alone.
The dat is a constant work-in-progress. It's inevitable that issues and problems can occur within it. All we can do is try our best to work through the issues and eliminate them.
I really enjoy hanging out at GBAtemp and I don't want that ruined by this dat. So we should all work together to make this dat great, but at the same time, not be a devastating force to anyone not privy to it or in online games. Local multi is all good though. I'm just hosting the file, the dat belongs to the whole GBAtemp community.
