I've noticed as I've grown older, my preference for what I play my games on has changed. I used to prefer singleplayer games on my consoles and PC. Now as I've grown older that's changed. Now I tend to prefer this:

Singleplayer: Handheld > PC > Console

Multiplayer: Console > Handheld > PC

Out of curiosity, I created this thread to see what others prefer and why. This is meant to be a lighthearted topic.

-

The reason I prefer Handheld for singleplayer is that I like the convenience of it. No matter where I am, I can just pull that out and start playing it. I'm not big on multiplayer games, but the ones I do play I prefer local multiplayer for. So consoles or a PC hooked up to the TV (essentially HTPC) works well for that. I can't stand online multiplayer, so it's mostly just something I do with friends. If I can't get a singleplayer game on handheld, I'll go for PC so if I have guests, I don't have to worry about taking up the TV with a game I'm obsessing over.

My gaming experiences and preferences come in periods. I'm currently working on my steam backlog (which nonetheless grows faster than I can get through it :P ), but I've got a few casual games on my smartphone that keep me busy (yes, it does count as 'handheld').

I hardly ever play multiplayer. If I was fair, I should even vote for console on this, as multiplayer mario kart is about the only multiplayer I play recently. But as to what I prefer is the PC. And it will always be (it's the seating...when I'm comfy in the chair, I play casually. for a competitive edge, I need to sit straight up).

it all depends on he games....
there are games i don't like to play on a pc (pokemon ones for example, even the first ones i play them on the DS\3ds)

for small games like casual ones, an handheld is much better than have to stare to a huge screen

there are lot of indie games i preefer to play on a tv screen, or nintendo games (the zelda games i played on wii, i i preferred to play on tv)

as for first person shooters, always the PC...

keep in mind games are optimized for some platforms...

but i preefer multiplayer on a pc, because you are closer to the screen and can chat much better this way (because you are using a keyboard and the screen is closer to read better the chat)

It just depends on the game for me really, I don't play more singpleplayer or more multiplayer games on whatever console/handheld. Though generally I stick to friends only for games with multiplayer, with pretty much the only exception being the Souls games.

I forgot to mention smartphones. Oh well, half the time I forget there's even games for them. They fit with Portable, I guess.

For me, part of the multiplayer experience is being able to backhand your friend that's being a jerk.;)

Whatever gives me that sweet gaming fix of the style I care for this hour. However I do not actually play that many games these days, not for lack of time either. I do not view the probably thousands of hours of tetris that my GBA and DS have done to be more than busywork for my hands.

Practically speaking my PC emulates or plays every style of game, has a nice mouse, a nice keyboard, a nice screen and a nice chair for me to sit upon. I played many GBA games on the PC, however as the GBA was kind of the little SNES and the DS followed on with that many things were practically home console games anyway.

I can not walk with headphones on so I never listened to music when out and about, I do not have a phone and as such I do not really play games when out and about. I have cards for that sort of thing anyway. I have no compulsion against playing games in public though; if there was something I felt like playing I do not mind sitting on a bus, train or in the park playing something.

If I am at a friends I have no problems playing on a console though.

Edit. I once saw a remark along the lines that most batteries get used within a couple of metres of a power source. That accurately describes the existence of my handhelds.

I play handheld all the time: handheld games AND emulated ones. I finished Metroid Fusion while in planes and Wipeout Pure while in the subway (took me a while for this one).

Then there would be a game I want to play on my PC and trust me, after focusing so much on retro/portable games, you get very fascinated by the better-looking games on a HD screen. It's still something that helps just a little if the game sucks, but when it doesn't, it's a HUGE plus. I can't wait to go back and finish L.A. Noire.

Or when your player dies, you can say in code, if enemy exists, do nothing, but if enemy does not exist, then create enemy at certain spot. (This would be a pain tho for lots of emeies)
