I played the crap out of Sonic 1 and 2 and love those games so much. So, that's the Sonic I know and love, but I have fond memories of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on Gamecube, and DX: Director's Cut. Come on, City Escape on the former, unforgettable. I don't think those games are classics, but I got used to that 3D Sonic style, it's more of a learning curve than the 2D style. Trying to accept this is what Sonic became, even back then. Somehow Mario's transition to 3D was so much smoother. Why do you think SEGA keeps trying to bring the 2D style back into the Sonic games? Even they know the 3D can be flimsy, which Shadow the Hedgehog kind of exhibited that for me, but I still liked the game. I've spared myself the trouble of playing Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom. I forgot about Sonic Heroes, yeah that was good. I liked Secret Rings, that 3D was better, but it wasn't mainline Sonic. Sonic Unleashed was, but Werehog was not great. I played a bit of Sonic and the Black Knight, that was okay. Basically, classic Sonic stopped when they moved to 3D. I haven't played Sonic CD, so for me, classic Sonic stopped specifically after Sonic 3 (& Knuckles). That's why Sonic Mania is so massive for me, it looks like the Sonic I loved at 10 years old, a new Sonic experience that should match the ones had with Sonic 1-3. I almost cried watching that initial trailer for the game, that's how much this upcoming game means to me.
