I know some of have gotten this to work on Gateway using the retail .3ds dump, but no combination of steps used to make it functional have worked.

Moon loads, says the data is corrupted, if I delete the data it goes to the second error telling me to turn off the console. I've manually deleted the appropriate save from the SD card, it'll still do the same two errors whatever I do. It's been converted to card2 save, and still no dice.

Has anyone successfully accomplished this feat, who initially had similar issues?

Don't trim the ROM.

I tried to play a leaked .3ds, not CIA. There must be some correlation here, as others who did this have the same issue.
I used that too, couldn't get it working quite right trimmed so I gave up on it and went back to the CIA.
It does need to be converted to Card2 though. If you're still getting "An error has occurred" when deleting the save, it sounds like it's not converted to Card2 correctly, as that error went away for me after converting it to Card2. Even when it still didn't work correctly because I trimmed it, it would just initialize the save indefinitely, not give that error.

Ok it now works for me, I removed all saves from root + removed "Nintendo 3DS" folder, took the moon.3ds and converted it to card 2 save with card1to2.exe
I injected no header and didnt rename to 3dz

dont know what exactly from the above fixed it

It must be removing the Nintendo 3DS folder. I've tried everything but that.
I'm trying it again with that folder removed, card2 save, and header injection with Gateway ROM Patcher 1.2

It froze on black screen before loading the game. I'll try with an older version of ROM patcher and see what difference it makes.

try to not inject a header, just .3ds and card2.
After you're in game, save and copy the .3ds from gateway to your desktop. Then inject header and rename to 3dz. Put it back on gateway, it will say corrupted data but reset with up + x + b (works for me now + I put my nintendo 3ds folder back)

this seems really weird and I dont know why it works on my 3ds now

Shucks. I tried your method, but after resetting the save with up+x+b i got the black screen with "An error has occurred." Hold down power to reset and try again.

Any ideas?

@Criznittle: Were you able to get it to work?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I tried removing the Nintendo 3DS directory and I put it back, but now all of the stuff on my home screen is gone! Luma Updater, FBI, everything... Is there anything I can do? Please please help!!

If anyone is still hung up on this issue, the problem i had was after using card1to2.exe and it said "done" i would close the command prompt because i assumed it was finished.
You're expected to hit enter one more time after it says done, then the software closes itself and completes the job.

I feel stupid for never trying this, but i imagine everyone with the same issue didn't hit enter a second time.

After I dump cart, do I need to inject private header, or do I just do the card1 to card2 convert? Also, where do I get the converter?

Programmer note: include a message "Press Enter to conclude operation" instead of done. I found myself lost in this too :(
