How about something as simple as opening it up and cleaning it? Is doing a Google or YouTube search on how to disassemble and/or clean a Wii too difficult? It's literally one of the easiest consoles to take apart.

The Wii is a pretty solid construction with few potenial pitfalls on disassembly.
Be careful when disconnecting the drive (if you want to go that far -- and not only clean the fan)
Guides on ifixit (link above) are usually a good starting point. Notice the many different kinds of screws. In my opinion the hardest point is remembering which type goes where (but the ifixit guide tells it anyway).

Whilst you have your Wii opened up, you can examine your SD slot for damages.
Good idea taking the other thread in account
