Ok, well I haven't been following the Wii hacking community lately (the last thing I did on my Wii was softmod my v3.2 Wii), so as you'd expect I'm a bit confused with all of the things available now.

So basically, I'm trying to update my Wii to 4.2, and have some questions.

1. I'm following the guide here --> http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901 -- and it demonstrates a way to update the console offline. Can I just go to the System Update on the Wii and install the latest update from the internet instead of updating offline like the guide says? I'd like to start fresh and not have any of the BackupLaunchers or HBC's installed so I can just install all the ones from the files from the guide. How do I get rid of all my 3.2 homebrew files so I can do a clean update?

2. Referring to the guide above, if I just do a clean OTA update and wipe everything off my Wii so it's virginized and has no hacks/ custom IOS's at all, can I just start the guide from the Modify Wii section?

3. What mods do people use nowadays instead of Starfall? Basically something that stops forced system updates via disk?

Thanks

use bannerbomb for 4.2 SM
install hackmii 0.6
use TBR for ios36
install priiloader +hacks.ini for 4.2 then enable "disabled disc update"
use anytitle deleter to delete stub IOS's
install cios
then load wad manager install your favorite loader of what so ever.

Thanks, but I have no idea what any of that means haha

I mean, it would be helpful if I wasn't such a noob, but it doesn't really answer all my questions either... thanks anyway

just follow that complete softmod guide to obtain all the files you needed
then follow the procedure that i previously mentioned

well ofcourse you'll still need to learn everything, or go to wiibrew and search for everything read some...

Ok thanks, basically I need to know if I can update my Wii via WiFi and still be able to follow the guide from the 'Modify' Section instead of via SD because I only have a 512mb SD card (not big enough for all files and NAND backup), and an 8gb SDHC card (not supported on 3.2 to do the backup and NAND flash). Sorry about the confusion.

Oh, so I can update the Wii using my 512mb card and then switch to my 8gb card when I'm on 4.2 and THEN make a NAND backup?

I see

I know the pricing of electronics nowadays isn't "how much it actually costs" but "how much we can get away with", but putting up a poll is just cynical.

Probably $150 someone said Anbernic said around the same price as rg556
