PlayStation 5 homebrew LibHijacker can now run 60fps patches, mods, and load programs

The PlayStation 5 homebrew scene is going strong, with developers actively working towards cracking the system wide open. LibHijacker (a temporary name for the time being), developed by Astrelsky, is a tool that can, as of its latest release, run homebrew applications on PlayStation 5 consoles. According to another scene dev named Zecoxao, LibHijacker is at the point where it can boot homebrew in the form of ELF files, and potentially even PS5 games. The caveat is that while it can run something, LibHijacker will then hang at the PS5 splash screen. Currently, the involved developers are working on creating a homebrew application that they can further test functionality with. While this may not mean much for the end user right now, this is a major milestone for the PS5 homebrew scene.

In addition to that, a fork of LibHijacker has been made by illusion0001, which can be used to run 60fps patches for games that normally are locked to 30fps. It's a fairly intensive process, as you need a specific firmware of PlayStation 5 to use an exploit on, and you'll also need to own the supported games to take advantage of the 60fps mod, as there's no way to load backups, yet. This variant of LibHijacker supports 14 different games, and can even allow access to debug menus.

Supported PS4 titles:
  • Batman: Arkham Knight v1.15: 60 FPS
  • Bloodborne v1.09: 60 FPS by Lance McDonald
    • Also includes:
      • No Motion Blur
      • No Chromatic Aberration
      • Debug Camera by Lance McDonald
  • Crash Team Racing v1.21: 60 FPS
  • Driveclub v1.28: 60 FPS
  • Gravity Rush 2 v1.11: 60 FPS
  • The Order 1886: v1.02: 60 FPS
  • The Last Guardian v1.03: 4K at 60FPS
  • The Last of Us Remastered 60 FPS + Debug Menu (v1.11)
  • The Last of Us Part 2 60 FPS + Debug Menu (v1.00 + v1.09)
  • Just Cause 4 v1.32: 60 FPS
  • Shadow of the Colossus: 1440p at 60FPS + Debug Menu
  • Silent Hills: P.T at 60FPS
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 v1.29: 60FPS
Supported PS5 titles:
  • Demon Souls v1.00: 60 FPS Unlock in Cinematic Mode
  • Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection v1.00: Debug Menu

Not huge in the least. 60fps patches were already compatible with PS4 pro.

It is huge, the reason being we can leverage the power of the PlayStation 5 to get much better performance out of these patches. In many cases the PS4 Pro could not hit and/or sustain 60fps even when setting a lower resolution.

As an example Bloodborne can not sustain a locked 60fps at 720p whilst utilizing PS4 Pro's boost mode, on PlayStation 5 we get a completely locked 60fps at 1080p.

That's true, but this is about the PS5. The fact that a previous generation console has reached a certain level with homebrew doesn't negate advancements in the current generation. And as you can see in the post, two PS5 titles are supported: Demon Souls and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.

But even with the 60fps part aside, Andrew's work toward cracking the system open is most definitely a big step forward.

Ugh, we're going to get PS5 piracy with a softmod, before we get Switch OLED piracy without a hard mod, aren't we?

You'll never get a soft mod for the switch, this was already blocked.

Thats the purpose of the hard mod it bypasses the block using the chip.

And piracy seems pointless unless they find a method to support external storage and also fact that these exploits are only going to work on redundant firmware with the bounty program paying out large amounts to report on exploits which hackers have been doing and these exploits are already patched.

Even if they gained more access, its only good on the exploitable systems unless they find a new entry point in the later firmware to gain controll over its hypervisor I think its called.

Good things are coming to the wise patient Ps5 owners who avoided updating and kept their consoles offline, public HV exploit and full jailbreak coming for sure.

We'd have both but $ony's Hacker0ne bounties are working quite well to reward hackers and entice them to disclose to $ony instead of releasing to the homebrew community.

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
now i have a reason to buy one

Looks like im buying a ps5
Unfortunately you missed the boat, firmware 4.51 or lower so you should have bought Ps5 back in December 2021, like most people did coz of PsB00bs Ps4 & Ps5 vulnerability, The Fl0w's and C-Turt's disclosures to $ony's Hacker0ne.

And ofcourse the over $50,000 combined bounties collected by aforementioned individuals in 2021 alone,

and again another over $50,000 collected in early 2022 by both dudes was all the incentives we needed to gobble up Ps5's.

BUT if you can get a new and sealed CFI-1000 series you are golden.
