Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice will release September 2016 on 3DS

Today, Capcom has confirmed that the much-anticipated next instalment in the Ace Attorney courtroom drama series will make its way to Europe and North America as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice sees Phoenix in a brand new courtroom situated in the Kingdom of Khura'in, home of the Kurain Channelling Technique, where mysterious s?ance trials decide the fate of all defendants. Brand new to the series is the S?ance Sight gameplay mechanic that allows the player to revisit the last moments of a victim's life. Players must fight to unravel the contradictions in the testimony of the dead, cross-examining the Royal Priestess' Spirit Insight to see the sensations a victim felt just before death. Meanwhile, defense attorney Apollo Justice faces his own challenges, taking cases for the Wright Anything Agency and trying to discover the long-kept secrets of his past. Both our heroes are joined by a host of returning friends and adversaries in their fight to bring about justice.

Filled with puzzling cases to solve, the new game also brings back and improves on the interactive scientific investigation features from previous entries, including directly dusting evidence for fingerprints and examining video footage to discover the hidden secrets of a crime scene. Also returning are the popular Mood Matrix emotion detector and Revisualisation critical deduction mechanics. In addition to this arsenal of investigation techniques, players can now change the difficulty level of the game by turning off hints, making for a more challenging case.

This narrative adventure stars beloved defence attornies Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice, and sees the return of many familiar faces alongside some interesting new additions. The title will be released as a digital download in the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS(TM) family of systems in Europe and North America in September this year at an MSRP of GBP 24.99 / EUR 29.99 / USD 29.99.

Edgeyworth:

Ema Skye and scientific stuff
Pretty happy seeing Ema back, even if she wasn't that likeable in AA4. OR AA1 for that matter.

I can't even look at Edgeworth with glasses. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU, EDGEY

Wright might also be the prosecution in at least one case with Apollo as the defense.
Woah hype level over 9001

With all the returning characters, and the fact that people on Court Records found that at least one more old character will be returning (by datamining the demo), IT BETTER BE GUMMY OR I'LL KICK A PUPPY.

jk i don't have a puppy, but i just want gumshoe back

Oh, it was also discovered that there will be one DLC case called Turnabout Across Time.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the tutorial/first case. They've done something similar before, iirc.
Are you refferring to Bridge to the Turnabout wherein Edgeworth acts as a defense attorney for Iris while Franziska is the prosecutor?

Possibly. I was thinking more along the lines of one of the first cases for either Apollo, Athena, or Phoenix after his long hiatus. I've got a bad memory though, so who knows.

I think this confirms that Simon's in the game. No sign of Gumshoe though :(

Some spoilers for the third case:
A priest is murdered and Maya is held responsible. Cool!

Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice: Case 3 Detailed

This got a bit buried yesterday, between the new trailer and the English announcement, but now that we've all got a moment to breathe -

Yesterday the official AA6 Japanese site saw a big update, covering the information in this week's Famitsu.

Case three ("Turnabout Ritual") sees Maya arrested on suspicion of murder when a priest, Malmel Aatamu, is killed during the final rite of her training. The two were (of course!) alone at the time in the shrine. At the time of the murder, Maya was playing the role of the country's mythical bird princess, said to have protected the country in a time of conflict - three guesses as to what costume the killer was wearing, and the first two don't count. (Incidentally, this bird princess is so popular there's a show based off of her, "Torisaman" (a play on "Tori", bird, and "Tonosaman", the JP name for the Steel Samurai)).

Nayuta returns to Kurain to take the case, and Ema, traveling with him, offers to help Phoenix in his investigation with the old Luminol magic. As for the case itself, two new characters are revealed who have direct ties: Nanashiino Gonbe (Tentative), a man so amnesiac he's appended "Tentative" to his own name, and Saara Aatam, the victim's wife. Saara seems to be hiding something, leading to the re-introduction of the Psyche-Lock system.

Finally, two more major characters are revealed: the leader of the revolutionary forces known only as Durk, and Rayfa's father, Inga Karakhul Kurha'in. Inga is not only the husband of the queen but also the Minister of Justice in the country, making his struggle against the revolutionaries that much more personal.

And last but not least, Revisualization makes its return. Unlike AA5 where the process was shown as moving from left to right, here it's visualized as diving "into" the screen.

Less than a month until the Japanese release!
