I have a grey O3DS XL but I'm really not happy about it cosmetically. It has some scratches in the back and some black undercoat showing on the front. I originally wanted a deal but they are expensive and seems like they don't cover the curvy side areas, on which my device is also damaged.

I don't want a case because it'll probably be too bulky.

I've seen people take the plates off and then paint it but I'm anxious about it. I'm experienced in DIY stuff and I've been sculpting/painting figures for 2 years now. However, if any of you attempted this sort of thing I could use some advice.

Also, please tell me if you think this is a bad idea or you would do something else to cover the damages. Thanks in advance.

If you know, how it should look and you are going to like it, paint it. Just make sure, when disassembling everything, unplug it first :D

Thanks for your input. I'm still having doubts maybe I should wait a little longer.

I wouldn't. Unless you get the right kind of spray paint and prepare the surface properly it will start chipping really soon. And if you add varnish then it might get too thick and not go back together again properly.

very good point.

No, I don't care how good of a painter you are, its going to look like shit. I would either look for a shell replacement or try to repair the scratches yourself with touch up paint.

But the most reasonable is to just wear the scratches as badges of war.

I like this point of view. Maybe I'll reconsider ever trying to fix anything...
