They would be able to update by purchasing cartridges that have firmware updates built in.

Is there any way to use ReiNX with the replacement FS_XXX_nogc.kip1 mentioned in the upgrade/downgrade guide that prevents the gamecard slot from updating?
Does ReiNX load the replacement sysmodule the same way hekate does in the guide, or will upgrading with the guide then switching to ReiNX immediately update the gamecard firmware?

You should be able to place the .kip1 in the /ReiNX/sysmodules directory on your SD card (make the directories if you don't have them). You just need to make sure to change the extension to .kip.

Relevant bit of code here if you want to confirm.

Edit: May not work if you also want sigpatches.

It's just so practical to install nsp and also supports dlc and updates (you can get all o those with CDNX downloader)

DLCs work if you found a way to install it in the first place. I have a valid sxos license so I was able to install a few DLCs, I tried them with ReiNX and even hekate with sigpatch and they worked perfectly.

No. And it would <4.1 only and none of these methods would work for it because this all requires boot-operation sigpatching.

If I do a backup via Hekate, then use ReiNX along w/ installing NSP (aka insta-ban) files would simply restoring it pre-ReiNX place me in the clear to use my switch online as normal w/o getting banned?

No, it's a certificate ban. You have the same certificate before & after.
