Is it possible to make a new Wii (with bootmii only as IOS) completely brick proof without a GC controller?
no

the closest you'll get is preloader
Thanks for the quick answer, I guess I'm going to have to try and find a GC controller

wait .. i want some informations about that .. why use a GC controller ? i mean .. what's the difference between use Bootmii as an IOS with a GC Controller or without for brick protection i don't understand it ..

thank you

Noob question but I'm not a noob and I've always wanted to ask this:

Is using DOP-IOS to install IOS36 with hash check the same as the IOS36 after TBR?

or is it different?

~ Jon

It should be the same

Hello,

I currently have a PAL Wii version 4.2E modded with a wiikey 1 (1.9S). I want to softmod it if possible. What's the best/safest way for me to do it? I'm a total newb when it comes to softmodding btw. I have no idea where to look either cause it seems there are so many options available.

Help would be very much appreciated!

From what I've gathered you have to use a GC controller to navigate bootmii if it's installed as IOS, though someone with more experience should be able to help you further.

hi guys

here is my situation:

i had a friend softmod my wii a while ago (probably back in February or march of 2009) i don't know what was installed and what was not installed. however, i do have the homebrew channel currently.

currently, i can't play many of the more recent games (such as, muramasa, new mario bros, guilty gear and king of fighters) and i'm not sure why.

right now i have a 3.4U wii and it keeps prompting me to update my wii system.

is there anyone who can point me in the right direction in terms of how i can restore my wii to pre-mod stage and then follow one of the gba temp guides to do a new softmod? Or is it possible to keep my 3.4U softmodded wii without any uninstalling and make it compatible with the newer games?

i don't use a usb external hard drive, so right now all my games are discs (not sure if this information is necessary)

sorry, im really bad at this stuff. i appreciate any input.
you should look here then: http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/home

you don't have to uninstall to be updated. new ios will just overwrite your old ios by the softmod update that you will be doing. the link covers everything you need.

hi razor

thanks for pointing me in the right direction

i do have a few quick questions before following the softmod guide and updating to 4.2U. i don't have bootmii installed so that should probably be my starting point. however, i since i already have the homebrew channel installed via twilight hack months ago, would that affect the bootmii installation in any way?

i also have this really bad version of neogamma disc loader.. should i uninstall the autobackup loader before installing bootmii?

i have Bootmii installed as an IOS and i can navigate through it with the wii power, reset and eject button .. well thanks for your answer

hi guys

i installed patched IOS36 and it resulted in an upside-down homebrew channel. i then continued following the guide to restore IOS15 on this guide:

http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/hacking-guide/trucha

any ideas what to do next? how can i get my homebrew channel back to right-side up? i also don't understand the instructions regarding installing waninkokos cios as the next step. not sure how to run it, i have the files on my sd card.

another problem is wad manager 1.5 is now showing up for me in my upside down homebrew channel

awesome

that worked

now i can't find DOP-IOS v8 and wad manager v1.5 on my homebrew channel

any ideas? both have a folder in the apps folder of the sd card
i have the old wad manager.. v1.31 instead

Edit:

Nevermind.

DOP-IOS showed up.

New question. Since i went through:

http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/other-stuff/fix-hbc

do i still have to do this step?

* Run DOP-IOS v8. First choose IOS36 and it will go to the next screen. Go right till you see IOS60. Choose yes for every option and let it install. Reboot your wii.

or do i have to run dop-ios v8 and patch/mod the IOS36 and IOS60 before using wad manager 1.5 to update to 4.1U?

i have a question, i want to install Priiloader or Preloader no matter and i learned that i have to trucha sign my IOS36 .. if i do this guide to trucha sign and to update wii do i do the seventh step before all the six others ('cause i'm in 3.4U) or do i do the steps in order ? it's logical to do the steps in order but .. we never get to sure with Wii hacking so i prefer to ask

Thanks

jesus

i keep running into problems after problems.

im trying to use wad manager v1.5 to install System Menu-NUS-v449.wad (update my wii from 3.4U to 4.1U)

but i keep getting:

Installing WAD, please wait...
>> Installing title... ERROR! (ret = -1036)

Press any button to continue...

I searched google and Gbatemp and it doesn't appear to be a common error. Any ideas?

maybe it is because you don't have enough space on your wii or maybe because you IOS60 isn't trucha signed (i googled it to give you this information and it came on gbatemp site

gah.

i just deleted a bunch of channels on my wii. then i ran the wad manager to try to install the system update and still, same error.

im not sure what iso60 not being trucha signed means

from the guide, it says download iso60 files using nusd and create a folder called 0000001 in the sd card, and then create a folder called 0000003c. In this folder, create yet another folder called v6174. then i copied the downloaded files in that folder.

im so confused

i really appreciate your help charlieg

use DOP-IOS choose IOS36 then at next screen go through IOS60 choose yes to all options and then let it install wii will reboot itself ..

last question.
smile.gif

i got my wii updated to 4.1U finally. thanks again charlieg.

hopefully this is the last question/problem i have :|

following the http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/hacking-guide/trucha

i installed cIOS38rev15.
then i read the print and it said rev15 was not compatible with neogamma. now i'm sad
frown.gif

i used to use gamma loader to run all my backups and i just learned about the incompatibility

is there a way for me to uninstall cIOS38rev15 and install rev14 instead? is it necessary? can it overwrite rev15 by installing rev14? what if i need to uninstall it, how can i go about doing that? will it affect my trucha exploits that i just did?

again, thanks everyone

charlieg said:
just reinstall cIOS rev14 and it will take place of rev15:)

ah nice.

when i open up the rev14 installer, it asks me which ios version to use during installation

do i use ios249 or ios36?

not sure 'bout that, i'd try to install it like in the beggining so on ios36 but i don't know ..
Use IOS 36. You're trying to install over 249 so I don't think you can use it. Either way 36 should work.
