Noob here...

Got a Wiinja installed in my Wii the same time that Paper Mario Wii (April 07?) came out. That worked well but then titles started piling up that would not play (Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros). Eventually I "softmodded" the same Wii using the TP Hack (maybe 6-7 months ago). My question - whats the latest way to get those issue titles (Galaxy and Bros) to work on my Wii? Does my modchip even matter now or is everything done through softmodding?

First try to update your modchip, this would be the best solution.

Do I have to update the modchip? Can't I just stay with softmodding?

With update i mean, update the software of the modchip. Softmodding should work for you, but updated firmware in your modchip would grant you a higher comfort as you can load every game from the disc channel.

My problem is I'm pretty sure the Wiinja chip does not allow software updates (its v2 IIRC). I did not install it - someone else did. Its been fine for 2 years now but there are several games I'd like to play. I toyed with installing my own chip...but I'm not sure how easy it is to do because I'm not sure what kind of job the guy did. I seem to recall him saying it put it on a "pad" so it was easy to pop on and off. Maybe I'll crack the case open and post a picture here.

Ok... so i searched around and haven't got to an answer yet...

Is there a way to detect all the cIOS that i've installed? Or which numbers should i keep a track on...
I know anytitledeleter but that's way to risky and i hate seeing only numbers instead of names.

I recall having installed a cIOS when the original backup loader was leaked, also another one for beta loader and yet another one for gamma...

I just want to know if having these cIOS installed will affect installing future scene applications or if there's some incompatibility issue that could cause a brick or something.

My Wii is NTSC 3.3v1 if that helps.

guess that's all!
Thanks!

If it skips from IOS51 to IOS254, you don't have a IOS249. That's why your backup launcher isn't working. If you get an error during cIOS installation, you need to downgrade, just look for the downgrade guide then. You want a rev7 cIOS, either WiiGator's(the Gamma cIOS) or Waninkoko's.

And DVDx isn't required anymore, it disturbs the backup launching when you do an advanced install now.(normal install for media players should be working fine)

The 2 infos inside the exlorer are normal, you get these with nearly ALL files. It's because of the method files are stored, the space is always rounded up to whole sectors. The 1st size is the correct file size.

Why the file size and the size in imgburn don't match i don't know.

all ios's (inless you get special ones) are installed to 247, so they overwrite each other.
So basically, at most i could have installed 2 cIOS (247 and 249) rite?
So I have nothing to worry about if i want to install ... say Softmii v 0.9?

BTW Thanks a lot for the quick answers

Oh i forgot to mention:
1. Maybe you need to set the layer break manually to a specific value
2. If you don't have a modchip, you need a rev6 cIOS instead of the rev7 cIOS for dual layer discs
Look at my Gamma + SoftChip compatibily guide for some more info

It's probably best to get/create a DVD5 version of the game.

Hello,
I was recently found out about SoftMii, and was hoping I could install some of its hacks on my Wii. However, I saw that it required you to downgrade your Wii's firmware to 3.2. I was somewhat dismayed by this, seeing as firmware 3.4 has updated SD card drivers that make copying games back and forth much faster. So, I was wondering. Is it possible to retain these updated SD card drivers while at the same time downgrading the firmware to 3.2? I would be very grateful if someone could answer this for me, seeing as I would be very interested in utilizing my Wii's full homebrew potential, as the 3.2 firmware seems to provide.

That is incorrect, all the cIOS were made to install in 249, but there was a time when we used to install IOS247 for the first launcher and 249 for the beta launcher
