Will you be unable to play fakesigned games that have been scrubbed, brickblocked or regionfrii-ed if you update your firmware to the latest version?
if you do it the official way -> yes

But if the games are clean (i.e. unscrubbed and such) they should play fine?

Originals work fine (duh) and unchanged backups should run fine as long as you have a cIOS installed
If you upgrade using waninkokos upgrader (in one of the guides here), you should be able to use all homebrew and run all games (that are compatible)

I have wii version 3.1e so i need to know how to install preloader and not brick my wii..

Or is it worth not using and just being carefull.

Also if you install a cIOS36 rev 10 can you brick your wii with it? i dont full understand what rev 10 is i think i have rev9 on my wii.
preloader is designed for 3.2 so you might wanna upgrade to it
installing cIOS36r10 should not brick your wii, it adds SD card reading functions for backups

What about the 0.29 version?

I don't care about homebrew.
OK,time to get specific, can a PAL Wii with WiiKey2 run an unchanged NTSC backup if it has been updated with the latest firmware normally?

What with preloader 0.29? It only added 4.0 support, no 3.1

Thank you, I'm totally fresh on the Wii scene and I get conflicting information from different sources that confuse me, I'm not an idiot, just ignorant.

Sounds too complicated..

I dont really want to risk updating and i don't really get the guide on installing Preloader any way.

You can only brick by installing wrong wads right?

If i just run stuff from the USB loader i should be right.

Is there an error on screen? (if so what one)
If you choose wad install, you need IOS36-64-v1042.wad in the root of sd
and for network install you need an internet connection

Hi guys,

I need your suggestion. My US Wii is currently on 3.2U with Wiikey 1 at 1.9s, and I have the latest version of HBC installed. Now, I am interested in playing Madworld, and I know it's got an update (not sure which).

Suggest me as to how should I go ahead and update my Wii with the latest "custom/modified firmware" so my Wii can play all the latest games and still be open to all the homebrew the Wii scene has to offer. As of now, am going the regular way of burning the backup on a DVD and playing it. Will check out the USB loader once it gets more stable

Thank you so much for all the help.

hmm, I haven't updated to 0.29 yet, and it seems its a bit different
well, put 'autoboot' to systemmenu, 'return to' also to systemmenu
can you give the options it gives with 'system menu IOS'?
Anyway, save the settings and return to the main menu
you should see 'system menu hacks', where you can activate the hacks

it's fine now, the system menu IOS has tons of options but i read in the wiibrew that the IOS 60 is what should chose as option.

now i can't use the USB loader, i plug the drive but nothing happens, when i unplug it it starts a countdown, the i plug it and nothing happens again. can be my hdd that is not supported? i'm using a LaCie 160 gb external drive...

edit:my wiimote doesn't even stay linked, when i'm inside the usb loader, the lights don't stay on, when i touch a button the lights blink but then the wiimote dies. can't even get back to the menu or turn off the wii..
