Nintendo's "Project Giant Robot" has been canceled

image.jpeg

Nintendo has recently released their 2016 earning's report, and with it has come some new information, along with the lack thereof. Notably, the report has no mention or any information about Project Giant Robot, a game that was being developed by Shigeru Miyamoto, first shown off at E3 2014. Reporters at Polygon pressed Nintendo for more information on the matter, to which Nintendo announced that the game is now officially canceled. Project Giant Robot was initially made to show off the capabilities of the Wii U gamepad, but it seems the game had troubles in development. This report once again verifies that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will indeed be the last first party Wii U game.

While ARMS has a feel of being Wii Sports Boxing it still reminds me of Project Giant Robot because of the character designs, gameplay and so on. PGR lives on.
They seem wildly different concepts to me. Arms is more of a progression of Wii Boxing. Project Giant Robot dealt a lot more with balance and leverage.

I'm willing to bet that Ninty will announce that Breath of the Wild has been canceled for the Wii U like in a week or so

I'll take that bet, games rarely, if ever, get cancelled a month before they're due to be released. At this point they should be getting to the pressing discs stage(if they haven't already started) .

Nintendo announcing the WiiU version cancelled just before being released under 30 days? If they were to do that, they would have done a while ago.

I gave up already when Yooka Laylee was cancelled.
Just cancel Zelda too if you want (Screw you Nintendo).

Yooka Laylee wasn't cancelled, they just didn't waste their time making it work on a dead console.

damn nintendo is sooooo eager to bury the wii U as fast as possible! it is a great system that had tons of possibilities but just because of the difficulty of developing platform it was differed by third party companies.

Really strange that they decided to cancel it instead of implying they'd be moving development over to the Switch. The enhanced gyro controls and "HD rumble" would have fit this game pretty nicely.

I think that a large part of the game was supposed to be the first person view presented on the gamepad. Without the second screen, this mechanic is lost entirely.

Weren't you supposed to hold the gamepad around your chest area? Might be pretty difficult to look at from there.

edit: Looked up a video of it from back when they showed it off and it looks like there is stuff going on with the screen and it's held out a little bit away from the body so you can look at it.

I thought it was a tech demo, nothing ever said it was a game?
I would probably classify it as more of an experiment. I believe both it and Project Guard were as gameplay experiments Miyamoto was working on. Project Guard, I guess, was a successful experiment that resulted in an official game.

This is the first I've heard of it being a game TBH
