Vins, cache files are being updated, or are them still needed? I'm not using it since SSBMelee worked perfect.

I don't think. Nintendont has been optimised a lot, loading time since the fatfs tweak, has been reduced a lot. Yesterday's rev also reduced loading time even more... I'm not going to create or use cache.txt anymore... It is now useless, unless a game requires it to boot.

No, the controller works through HID when plugged in. When not plugged in, it works through bluetooth (but nintendont does not yet support bluetooth, nor will it for awhile). Nothing requiring use of a PS3.
 
It's just a regular mini USB to USB cord any should do fine. In other words the cord isn't a proprietary PS3 USB cord you should be able to get one at any electronics retailer whether it be 6 or 8 feet long.
