Satoru Iwata has admitted that the online portion of the Nintendo Wii was not good, but that will be different with the next console and Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo says that the director in a question and answer session.
According to Iwata, the problem of the Wii that Nintendo wanted to develop it fully, while not having the qualities in the house. "Specifically in the area of networking, I admit that we change the world and the demands of consumers can not keep within our company and developing companies with which we have been working, " said Iwata. For the development of the online features of the console, in the second week of June will be revealed at E3, Nintendo has hired outside experts.

Iwata thinks the future of the Wii look different had seen, as well as the development of Nintendo console that experts from outside the company had hired. But, he emphasized, Nintendo has learned from its mistakes: "While we are on the right track, we clearly distinguish between what we are really good at and what we can, but more can be done by skilled specialists outside, to not get into that trap. "

wasn't the 3DS meant to have really good online?
yet it didn't get much improvement...

It's absolutely hilarious who the very same people who pressured Nintendo to release the 3DS early are now the ones complaining about the lack of all features.

(Not directed at you, just a general observation)

lol wft, universal FC not an improvement? It's true the 3DS has been rushed and we'll get more features like chat probably on the big update.

Universal FC is OKish.
But do you get a notification if someone adds your fc?

Nope, not much of a big deal. Compared to the to the DS you add to add FC for each of your friends games. -.-

If we get a username system and maybe gamertags, I'll be happy.

What's the point? You have 1 universal Friend Code and a Username is attached to Friend Codes in basically every game I can think of when playing multi.

It's *exactly* the same as having a gamertag - would you like it to be called differently, just to avoid naming it a code?

QUOTENope, not much of a big deal. Compared to the to the DS you add to add FC for each of your friends games. -.-

Which is a *good* thing, since the trouble of dealing with annoying c**ts is taken off your back and you only add people with whom you play. It doesn't stop you from using Global if you want, so where's the "limitation" that pains you guys so much?

The 3DS needs notifications for when someone adds you, the friend list needs to be organised by Online->Offline, and you need to be able to send short typed messages and recorded voice snips to friends on your friend list (even while in game) - that'd make the 3DS pretty awesome.

If the Wii 2 launches with those sorts of features I'd be happy. I wonder if they'll do achievements though... Something tells me they won't.

They take it firmly eyyy

On a more serious note, why on Earth don't they just go with a username database ... may be a bit costly on their behalf, but at least i'd like to have a sense on who is online and who isn't

If the Wii 2 and hopefully future 3DS updates incorporate more support in this sense then oh boy will i consider Nintendo's products again (ill see it as a initiative to buy it)

right now i need something more concrete though.

Nintendo's online structure is still beaten by last generation's Xbox and PS2 online structures. They're still bogging it down with friend codes, no voice chat, and they're lacking the "overlaying" features of PSN and XBL (such as achievements, parties, being able to hop into a friend's multiplayer match, the list goes on).

I seriously doubt that Nintendo will be able to compete with next generation's online features.

i guess the new implementation is expected on the wii 2. Lets hope its gonna be as playing online on the PC. And hopefully some side features that would make it interesting cuz the last time i played mario kart on the wii, it was like connect and play and nothing more. Fun but uninteresting/boring.

All I want on the 3DS is:
1) Message system. Also, have game requests. "Kevin Jo wants to play Street Fighter IV with you!" Maybe have a nice Street Fighter icon.
2) Get rid of the 16 character limit for comments
3) When you add someone, it sends them a request
4) Maybe a video chat channel. You just open it up, and can click a friend and just video chat. Doubt that will happen.
