Nintendo to shut down online play for all 3DS and Wii U games

sdaadsdas.png

It's the end of an era. Or perhaps the second end to an era. Following on the heels of Nintendo's decision to shut down the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U eShops and delisting all digital games for both platforms, is the announcement that online play for the two systems will also be discontinued. In April 2024, all online functionalities for all 3DS and Wii U titles will no longer work, including SpotPass. The shutdown of online servers for 3DS and Wii U games will happen just about 10 years to the day that Nintendo took down online play for the Nintendo Wii and DS.

In a FAQ regarding the announcement, Nintendo stated that support for Pokemon Bank will continue for now, though the service, "may also end at some point in the future".

In early April 2024, online play and other functionality that uses online communication will end for Nintendo 3DS* and Wii U software. This also includes online co-operative play, internet rankings, and data distribution.

You can find more information about badges for decorating the Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu using Nintendo Badge Arcade here.

We will announce a specific end date and time at a later date.

Please note that if an event occurs that would make it difficult to continue online services for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software, we may have to discontinue services earlier than planned.

We sincerely thank players for using the online services of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software over a long period of time and apologize for any inconvenience.

* This includes software exclusive to New Nintendo 3DS.

can’t you play online anyway on let’s say “hacked” servers?
with pretendo you will be able to

I wonder when they're actually gonna provide something rather than just still being in the beta testing phase.
running an online network that's not being funded by a corporation is not easy it will take time

I see. I do hope that it'll come out before then, but i can see how difficult this can be.

Honestly at this point though, should I even care about the cancellation? Last time I played the 3ds I was testing stuff out between it and Discord, and outside of Trying to find people in New Leaf to probably be friends with (which is impossible and will be impossible at this point), I don't really use many of the online features of the 3ds.

Has anyone managed to figure out how to get the DLC tablets and such in Dragon Quest 7 without needing online play, whether through a server emulator, game patching, or cheat codes?

I think you can do this through modding and getting the game through other means

Does that mean that people who bought 3DS and WIIU digital games can reinstall them??
Will Updates fall? What can you do and not do?? What are consequences of this?

Especially Pokémon X, which I just love a shitlot.

What was Gen 6 Online like compared to the Plaza of Gen 7's Sun and Moon? I've said to someone that the Pokémon games of the 3ds were special in that interactivity was better than any other game but they said that it was mostly just battling, trading, and whatnot.

I need to hurry up migrating all my past Pokemon from Gen 4 to 5 so I can get them in to PokeBank then Pokemon Home.

Will be a sad end of an era when its no longer possible to transfer Pokemon from the GBA games all the way to modern games. Good to see Nintendo do somewhat recognise this and will keep Pokemon Bank working for now anyway...
Well.... You can still do it with modded consoles, I suppose.

So, no more splatoon online?

For the first game until Pretendo comes out to the public, yeah.

It's possible, but I personally don't know how that will work.

In XY you had the PSS which was far superior than the Festiplaza in almost every way imho. Basically every time you connected online you would see people online as well (passerby trainers) and you could exchange messages, trade or battle with them
