also how else would you mix voice chat into 1 source with game audio, this would only be useful if you play multiplayer out of the dock.

Well Nintendo could have "integrated the squid accessory into the Switch" so you'd only need to plug a headset to the Switch and a phone to the Switch, instead of an accessory to the Switch and a phone to the accessory and a headset to the accessory.

It's being produced by a third party, but it's in partnership with Nintendo - hence the squidboy character in-game wearing the exact same design headset.

Well Nintendo could have "integrated the squid accessory into the Switch" so you'd only need to plug a headset to the Switch and a phone to the Switch, instead of an accessory to the Switch and a phone to the accessory and a headset to the accessory.

Have the Switch have some kind of native party chat feature like literally every other gaming platform around this decade? Headphones output both game and chat, adjustable by separate volume levels

Yeah, that would remain among the annoying things. But if Nintendo doesn't want to (or can't, whatever) put chat on the Switch, we can't avoid that. Even if not using their official accessories, you'd still have your phone (or "worse", a computer) next to you for that purpose. My post was just a way to remove the additional accessory.

I dont know why Nintendo cant just do voice chat though the game. It seems very easy to me. Ive play bomber man , splatoon test fire and seems like all you would have to do is add in some more code to transfer voice. So No app needed. Now since there isnt a app on the system you wouldnt be able to pull up and talk to a friends list but you would be able to talk in game. Which is mainly what most people need.

Now i understand if your trying to chat with your online friends in a group outside a game. I see that being a problem because how the switchs OS works. It just doesnt have the ability to run both app at the same time.
So they is still soem work they could do to improve the online chat.

And I can see headset being updated to wireless.
Probably be a usb powered bluetooth headphone jack.
Headset would be bluetooth. Then a main unit plug into the switch usb and headphone jack. It could get game audio and then your phone could connect to it to get chat.
That would work very well.

Ill see how everything goes. Might make something like that. People have already bluetooth the headphone jack

I'm beginning to wonder if the mobile app will not only require access to the contacts stored on your phone, but if it may restrict voice chat to only the contacts on your phone.
It's the sort of bizarre thing Nintendo would do in the name of 'protecting the children'.

JK, this is bullshit. Except maybe if they have the possibility to stick the squid adapter and the phone at the back of the Switch somehow, in which case it's still bullshit but at least it doesn't ruin portability too much.

When I say "integrated", I mean, in the base Switch, not as in "you buy a Switch, then you buy the accessory and you integrate it into the Switch". So you Switch would have more hardware (no performance loss, basically the accessory's hardware), more jacks (to plug all your stuff), etc.

If they want you to play with the friends on your systems friends list, why would they use your contacts?

That requires a more premium audio chip that tegra x1 lacks. Maybe the refresh in 2020.
MY money is still on switch not using x1 even today. Foxconn leak suggest a die size of over 200mm2, where x1 have 121mm2 and gtx 1050 ti have 132 mm2 with 768 cores. But that debate is way over now.
