After months of countless leaks, Nintendo has finally lifted the curtain on the highly anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch.

In a short teaser trailer we are given a brief look the new system unsurprisingly titled the Nintendo Switch 2. We also get a glimpse at a new Mario Kart game running on the system and confirmation of backwards compatilbility with Nintendo Switch software and game cards.

We also see the new joycons being pushed along like a traditional computer mouse, further fueling the rumor that the joycons will support a "mouse mode".

Alongside the new trailer, a Nintendo Direct focused on Switch 2 has also been announced for April 2nd.

I'm more surprised by the fact this was not called the Nintendo Switch XL, because the first minute of the video strongly implied that possibility.

There is good hope that the beefed up specs will be officially announced soon, that would only be the next logical step.

Wow, it's done. The "Nintendo Switch 2." No unique word, no "U," just "2." I guess I'm ok with that. I'm not familiar enough with more recent Mario Kart games, did that look like a new Mario Kart game or just footage of an existing one?

During the teaser, when that logo came up, I hoped they had messed up and called it the "2 Nintendo Switch"... I mean, it's not unthinkable, since they made the 2DS and 3DS.

This isn't Resident Evil 4.
