I wonder how easy it would be to find someone with a non-XL with an exploitable firmware that would want to trade for my XL with 9.9. Then I could use NH2.0 on my N3DS and NH1 on an o3DS.

If you updated your O3DS to 9.3-9.9, then you should use NH2.0, otherwise NH1.0 works fine on 9.2 and below. It's said that NH2.0 has fewer capabilities than NH1.0, so if you have a device that can run NH1.0 then there's no reason to update and use NH2.0.
I don't know if I was confusing. I have 2 3DSs. A N3DS and an o3DS. Since both are on 9.9 (I updated when I transfered to the N3DS), I'd like to trade the old one for an even older non XL with an exploitable firmware.
What's preffered between 4.5 and 9.2, if I have Cubic Ninja, OoT and a power saves, and have firmware options?

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
