Oh, nnk2 has a new battle system. I might like it better that way, more freedom of movements. I like both classical and action RPG, so it's great.
New battle system with apparently new monsters too. I sure hope there's still a large variety of monsters to get as that's one of my favorite things about Ni No Kuni.

Plus the Higgledies look really really lame.

Hi there! Are you trying to make your own translation? Or, do you want to know when the patch will be released?

For translation tools, you're likely better served asking on the more general Ni No Kuni translation thread:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/ninokuni-shikkoku-no-madoushi-translation-project.310214/
There are many people working on the game in many languages, and there is a better chance of getting help with general rom hacking things on that thread.

If you're curious when the patch (with the translated graphics) will be released, it is looking very probable that we will have the first version of the patch ready by the summer of this year, or possibly earlier. This first version will not include the Magic Master book that comes with the game, and therefore some of the riddles in the game will simply tell you the answer that you need to type.

I hope that helps!
summer? may be try early beta...spring?)
btw, what finally english title name, ni no kuni: another world, or dominion of the dark djinn, or Jabo the dark wizard?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

oh, ni no kuni 2 released on PC too? sad...i wish that PS4 exclusively...

Apparantly there are no recruited monsters though

I am of the philosophy that under-promise and over-deliver is the best way to encourage appropriate expectations. :) Also, I am in Canada so my Spring is probably your summer anyway. :P It is taking a long time for me to finish up the Item and Imagen descriptions, and we've just recently changed some of the font handling to buy us an extra line of text throughout the game, which will hopefully make the descriptions easier to translate and fit on screen. Still, we're not 100% done with all the game text yet, so I don't want to commit to a date quite yet. Plus, I'm selfish and I want to have the chance to play the whole game through once myself before we publish the patch. I'll say it'll be in the first half of the year, how's that? ;)

We are currently calling it "Ni No Kuni: The Jet-Black Mage", but have always talked about the pros/cons of going with "Dominion of the Dark Djinn". The full game title only comes up in a few places, and I'm really torn on what to call it because both names are common on the net. Jabou isn't really a Djinn, as that is more like a battle genie, but that's how Level 5 refers to the game on their English website. We would also likely want to change references to Jabou, the Jet-Black Mage in the game to better reference the Dark Djinn stuff if we went for DDD. I like the fact that the PS3 name specifically references White and that our current name choice specifically references Black, and since people want the release sooner rather than later we'll probably just stick with what we have for expediency's sake.

Plus the Higgledies look really really lame.

I dunno... in some of the videos of gameplay The Higgledies looked like crazy warrior pikmin on fire, and I'm a big pikmin fan. Also, we don't yet know how those creatures fit into the mythology of the world, so maybe they will become more likeable when we know more about them and why they exist and why they are helping us. I have a lot of faith in the Level5 team's design choices for these games, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on some of the things that look a bit peculiar at the moment.

yes, of course, i just mean that the public beta in any case, give more value, because a lot of people start to play and notice the bugs and flaws than when only you and a few others from your team...errors are inevitable, human factor) so do not need to worry so much if the game (patch) will not just "shiny")... as for the name, as in the PS3 version is better to make the "dominion of...wrath of...", in tune and in meaning coincides than just a name, a proper name, the ni no kuni: the black mage or ni no kuni: the white witch

FWIW, I think "The Jet-Black Mage" just sounds better than "Dominion of the Dark Djinn". Admittedly though, DotDD does follow WotWW's naming convention perfectly, so it may "fit" better and may even be more accurate, but TJBM has the black/white reference as you said, is less wordy, and just sounds better.

It's not what it sounds better but what is already accepted by the people:

and also, look how the creator name it:

Right, but as I mentioned you can find mentions of both names all over the internet.

Here's some Jet-Black Mage counter-examples:
https://www.destructoid.com/c-mon-level-5-localize-ni-no-kuni-ds-already--242714.phtml
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/NiNoKuni
http://www.gamefaqs.com/ds/954258-ni-no-kuni-shikkoku-no-madoushi/faqs/64025 (this one actually says Jet-Black Wizard)

Lots of ebay posts selling the game call it JBM, too.

We went with JBM because, as mentioned, for a variety of reasons. One of those is definitely that I can't see Jabou as a Djinn, which is like a genie sort of.
I see the alliteration benefit of the name, but that's about the only thing going for it, I think.

Oh, and we can just go edit Wikipedia to change it to Jet-Black Mage when our patch comes out, so no biggie there. :yay:

(I'm kidding about editing it, but not kidding about Wikipedia being an unreliable source of non-alternative facts)

"The Jet-Black Mage" also happens to be accepted by Anjiera -- another person -- a very very important person that you left out. Judging from her response to you, she was very thorough in how she arrived at her decision.

Oh, don't assume I am always right or anything. Don't worry, we had a rather large debate about the name, and it comes up almost every time we have someone new join the group. That, along with why we kept Shizuku's name the same as the original (voice-over in JP reasons as explained a few pages earlier in this thread).

You *can* assume that I'm starting to become a bit more hesitant to go through and change things throughout the game, though, because those sorts of things delay our ability to fully playtest the patch and also take time away from other tasks like translating things or playtesting or bugfixing.

Anyway, right now it is Ni No Kuni: The Jet-Black Mage. At least for v1 of the patch, it is likely to stay that way. :)

Help to find the selected text (image). What file?

If you need specific help finding files in the game, please PM me.
I don't know how to extract the image files from the game, but if you have already done that maybe the names of the files are the same?
I will look up a few of those images and PM you with filenames hopefully tomorrow (in about 5 minutes I need to be AFK for the rest of today, sorry).

I'm so amazed and impressed by everyone banding together to make a translation of Ni no Kuni. I've been dying to play it.

Sorry to be so ignorant but could someone link me to a guide that explains how to use the patch once its available. I know theres ways of uploading onto blank cartridges but I've never ventured into that area before and want to be prepared when the patch is available. For example, would i be able to apply the patch to the genuine copy of the game on a cartridge or do I have to use a rom in order to make it work?

Again well done and thank you so much for your dedication!

When we release the patch we will include instructions. We're using xdelta3 for our patch tool. http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/704/
Not much to update lately. I've been super sick (asthma + bronchitis = not fun), had a big release milestone at work, and other not yet finalized work stuff, so I haven't had much time to translate. Sorry! I'm hoping to have more time soon for the last of the text and a full playthrough.

Thanks for your patience, people.
