but if i owned a backup could i insert the custom .arc levels (they are .arc format aren't they?) to make them playable couldn't I?

As long as they are smaller or of equal size when compared to the original. Tanooki's Save Injector could be one way around this if you absolutely have to use a backup (ie. broken disc drive, scratched disc, etc). I doubt Treeki will give a solution for backup use, as he's said multiple times that he is strictly against it.

Then why the hell is he even in the homebrew scene.

How many people with an original disc would actually go and search for NSMBW editors.
Maybe about only 7% of them,
Why?.

1 Too scared of bricking their wii

2 OMG this might virus my computer

3 This game is already awesome

4 I hate hackers

First of all.... way to take over our thread guys.....

Second of all, I have tried replacing level arc's that are bigger then the orgional into the iso with wiiscrubber and playing them with usb loaders. It Always works, So stop, please... Whoever wants to bootleg Mario and Mario's Newer will be able too.....

We simply will not be distributing our Project that way...

now... PLEASEEEEE STOP TALKING ABOUT RANDOM CRAP IN OUR NEWER THREAD

Maybe if you weren't contradicting your earlier statements then these questions wouldn't be asked over and over. So now people will be able to use backups and USB loaders. Good to know. Thanks for a real answer for once.

The 'contridiction' came from a mistake someone made earlier. We have a special way of testing our levels VERY quickly that requires them to be smaller than or the same size as the orgional. This limitation was mistakenly stated to be consistant thoughout wii iso's and/or riivolution, it is not. Again, the limitation of level sizes is simply restricted to our testing method.

Sorry for any mix up's, and once again... ANYONE and EVERYONE will be able to play our game.

**I should also add that the testing method we were using was somewhat troublesom and will not be as good as riivolution once it is released.

I know...
But why build it all so it has no way to work except with the original disc

Oh my. You do know that piracy is illegal and not everyone supports it right? It may seem hard to believe but some people do actually buy games these days. For example the hackmii crew who originally hacked the Wii in the first place (bootmii, homebrew channel etc) are completely against piracy.

If you already pirate games you have absolutely no right or entitlement to be annoyed when something doesn't work.

Anywho, back on topic people.

Well, I'll try and make this clear. These are the four methods that can be used to load levels:

Riivolution:
- Requires original disc
- Can replace all files, replacements can be of any size

ISO modding with WiiScrubber:
- Requires a "backup loader" (by the way: don't call them backups, you're not fooling anyone
tongue.gif
)
- Can replace all files, replacements can be of any size
- Doesn't always work for some unknown reason (unrelated to Reggie)

Dolphin:
- This is the method Pop006 is referring to: a version of Dolphin which can patch any file in the game
- Won't be public (private to the Newer and Reggie teams)
- Replaces files in the game with files contained in a folder
- Replacements have to be the same size or smaller than the original
- Doesn't require the game to be restarted in order to load a new file

Tanooki:
- Can only replace levels, nothing else (Newer will modify other files, and will probably also include code hacks)
- No more info because I haven't been able to test it (Dolphin doesn't support the Gecko codes it uses)

Tanooki still has the level injector.

About my position on piracy-
I'm honestly "in the middle" on this - while I do pirate things, I don't agree with piracy of new/current games (I downloaded NSMBW when it was leaked, planning to buy a legal copy as soon as I got the chance - which I did) and I won't release any tools which make it easier.

If you want to pirate, then put in the effort to do so, and don't expect your illegal games to be handed to you on a silver platter. WiiScrubber works most of the time for modifying NSMBW, but not always. (And it's a pain. Trust me.)

Reggie doesn't include anything to stop you from using modified levels with pirated copies - but Riivolution is the officially supported method for it, which only works with original discs due to its design.

Basically: if you want to pirate, then do it, but we won't help you. If you have a legal copy and want to use it, then awesome, you get an easier way of loading levels.

Edit: Thought I should mention this. I don't even have my Wii at my house (long story), so I have ISO copies of most of my games simply so I can play them on Dolphin. As I mentioned above, I have a legal copy of NSMBW but I still haven't played it for this reason. Yes, I finished the game and almost collected every star coin with nothing but a keyboard

Amendments concerning new files

Riivolution:
- Can add new files (planned feature - mostly done)
- Can create multiple save files for a single game (planned feature)
- Allows choice of hacks on each game load

ISO modding with WiiScrubber:
- Takes several minutes for each batch of modifications
- Can add new files, but takes hours

Let's be fair here, Treeki. Tanooki does allow for larger levels than the original.
It's not a case of me being "unfair" - no one has ever posted any info (that I've seen) about whether or not Tanooki allows bigger levels, and I have no way to test it myself.

Pop006's Honeycomb Tileset!.... May or may not toy around with it later if anyone comes across some "bugs" with it. I personally couldn't find anymore. So for now it's done.

Features:
-Fixxed a small issue with the bottom row of Honeycombs being 'smooshed' together.
-Paint with just the 1x1 block Honeycombs (Small).
-Paint with just the 2x2 block Honeycombs (Large).
-Merge the two Small & Large Honeycombs together seemlessly.
-No longer restricted to "sqare" honeycomb areas, any slope is posible. (Can create diamons or circular areas as well as 30, 45, 60 degree paths)
-Works with the castle gates Collosion Properties so that you and/or Koopa Troopas can climb anywhere on the combs.
-Koopa Troopas actually climb on the front and back of the combs.
*****Note, when the Koopas are climbing on the back of the combs they are "hidden", but punding the combs with your fist still kills them.
*****Note2, I may try to add some slight transparency to the honey so that you can see through slightly, may or may not ever work well.
-Added BeeHive tiles which can be used in the same mannor as the hidden caves.
-BeeHive tiles can also be used as platfroms to walk on.
-Works layered over any tileset now, Grasslands (01-01), Sands (02-01), Forest (05-01) etc, etc. No more 'only works with forest tileset' restrctions.
*****Note requires a slightly advanced Reggie! Painting skill, you have to be a bit crafty with the layers. But of course most of you have no idea what that means yet.
-Only uses 36 of the empty tiles from Pa3_daishizen.arc. There are still 96 free blocks for more tiles to be added if necessary, (may only make sense if you have used Wart or image hacking before). The first edit I had used over 120 blocks but I managed to cut it down to 36 with no loss of features.

Wow, Pop! That's amazing! I'm guessing that those are ripped from Galaxy?

EDIT: Nevermind, I read an earlier post that answered my question. Still, that looks really good.

The idea was actually another Newer members... Vibe... but he was away for a while and I kinda took it on myself to finish what he started, hope he doesnt mind too much.
Yes the tile is taken from Galaxy, its actually used directly from the screenshot i posted, HERE , you can tell its the top right of the two attached in the middle there. Finding another hive that had a Mario look and feel, while tiling correctly would have just been a pain in the butt...

Coming up with new tileset ideas that can actually be pulled off is the hardest part, anyone with any suggestions can drop me a line or post a reply... I've got a couple more ideas in mind, just gotta try to find the time to work on them.
