Ninty is finally getting something right. But i would say that 70% of "pirates" use USB loaders instead of disc loaders, so this really doesn't hurt most people

This is as bad as hell !!!!!!!
Why don't they stop wasting their time dealing with this and figure out how bull-shit their graphic in comparison to other consoles in this generation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who gives a crap about graphics? I have a PS3 (with far superior graphics of course) and I don't play the dumb thing. I play the Wii mostly, because it's actually FUN to play! My PS3 is used almost exclusively as a Blue Ray player.
I agree the part that games on Wii are pure fun. But graphic is also important. And everyone wants a better graphic on Wii, agree ?

I don't care much about graphic if it not too ugly game play come first

Gameplay comes first, but that doesn't excuse a developer from poor graphics IMO. We all know the wii isn't going to rival the ps3 or 360, but the fact that a lot of wii games look worse than a ps2 or gcn title (when it's supposedly more powerful than it) is just lame.

But anyway, yeah. New pointless hardware is no good. I'd be seriously surprised to see them downgrade the USB ports though.

Nintendo must be feeling the pinch of the recession to take such drastic measures! If you ask me, it's too little too late!

I agree with some of the other comments posted. If the majority of wii games were not so crappy and overpriced then perhaps more people would buy them. Needless to say Nintendo are like Microsoft and just plain greedy. It probably wont be long before Nintendo take the same tact as Microsoft did by banning modded units from their online service. This in turn made people go out and buy more units didn't it? Newer units that can't be modded in fact. Is this new drive a prelude to that behaviour? Most probably.

It probably wont stop piracy but it will make the manufacturers a sh*t load more cash! The b*stards!

Replacing the USB2 ports with USB 1.1 ports would be a very good AP idea. Why the hell didn't they think of that yet.

Rumour has it that Nintendo are working on a more powerful successor to the Wii which has HD support and will likely have a Blu-Ray drive. It will be interesting to see how long it is before this gets hacked too!

why not add a USB feature to the cios that will let you use an external dvd-rom or
burner now that would be interesting and i bet the games would run at 6x guaranteed and it would give people
another option on Wii backup loading but still the gamecube wouldnt work... but who cares we'll worry about
that later.....
Herme's cios with uLoader can use USB-DVD drives.

seriously... but can it load backup discs???? think i'll try that

ahhh, so ur friends are the ones deciding to get an external dvd drive over a usb hdd... make sure u explain to the pros and cons of each choice... and also, because its an external dvd drive, u still wont be able to play gamecube games or ios reloading games like u can with cioscorp (if ur wii isn't a new D3-2 model)

in my opinion, there's no good reason to get an external dvd drive over an usb hdd... the only MAYBE acceptable reasons are that your friends are too poor to buy an external hard drive (even though as spindle of dvd's costs almost as much as a USB HDD) or they already have a lot of backup disks and ur friends are either too lazy or too dumb to transfer them to a usb hdd

Hey man, leave him alone, he's the Dark Alex of Wii modding

I bet he'll give us at least 20 megabytes more speed with his hacked firmware.

Huh???

fail
Let's try to keep this on topic. We're supposed to be talking about a new drive here...
The sarcasm seems to have gone over your head.
And, really, not much more can come from this topic.
At best, we can start gathering serials for consoles with these drives (which'll be a while off yet, IMO)

Wow what will they do next??? Remove the USB ports or change them to fire firewire LOL...
Ninty is so l337 at times....

They could replace the USB 2.0 hardware with real USB 1.1 hardware. That's still fast enough for Wiimotes and instruments but to slow for game loading.

Using USB 1.1 is like replacing the DVD drive with a floppydisk drive
