If this was by a Western developer, you would not care even if it was exactly the same game.

To be honest, the one reason why I love Tales of games is mainly for it's battle system, which is far from generic, in a generic jrpg the battle system is rather simple and you barely need to do anything, heck, you'll mostly save your potions to never use them, in the Tales games you need to use items somewhat often, unless you go into a grinding fest to over-level yourself, also, theres dozens of skills, some passive and some atack ones, in which you actually use your stick and buttons to do.
Point is, even if it was a western game, if it had that sort of battle system I'd still get it. =O
