They both require a special driver (DBLSPACE.BIN or DRVSPACE.BIN) to work, and there didn't seem to be a way to load those on DOSBOX. I didn't spend much time on it though since it wouldn't be of much use with today's storage capacity.
ONTOPIC: Sometimes I wonder if the Wii's firmware is incapable of being overhauled in any huge way.
Even the SD Card Menu is just a disguised way of loading a wad into the Wii's onboard memory, which pretty much ruins the whole purpose. So maybe we'll never see any awesome things like that ever again. If that's the case...

It seems like they chose this system structure and its kind of solid. From what i understand about the way the Wii works, which is very limited, its very difficult to change the way it works and loads games. they will have to implement the AP on the game. maybe they can add more code and checks to the system menu but that is a very weak way of addressing the issue, ala 4.2 checking for title names and installing stubs with the update.
