AstroCore brings Super Mario Galaxy to PC via full decompilation

The 2007 Nintendo Wii classic Super Mario Galaxy has reportedly been 100% decompiled by the SMGCommunity under the project codename Petari, and now a standalone PC port titled Astrocore, has been announced by the Luma's Workshop community.

Like other decompilation efforts, this project will allow for enhanced performance and graphics rendering and more by bypassing traditional emulation and using native code execution instead.

The upcoming PC port titled AstroCore is supposedly 100% human coded and is showcased in the above video. The project will reportedly release soon through the project's Discord channel.

This just in, we have officially reached 100% decompiled for Super Mario Galaxy 1!

The Luma's Workshop decompilation team will be moving to Super Mario Galaxy 2 after some cleanup work, so wish them the best of luck in the replies! We ask for your utmost patience, as we are putting a lot of care into this project to make sure it's done right.Stay tuned to this channel and the Luma's Workshop discord for more information and updates!

The project will of course require users to supply their own legally dumped ISO to extract the necessary assets which are not included.

Great I can't wait for the Switch port that will add all the enhancements the official port should've had !

The project will reportedly release soon through the project's Discord channel.
I am sincerely pleading for all developers to stop considering Discord to be a valid distribution method for a public release. Other than that, this looks very promising.

Edit: I think you interpreted SuperHackio's quote wrong. I assume you just get announcements on how the project is doing. I don't see why they'd gate the download to Discord.

no more Wiimote flailing nonsense, can't wait to play it with an honest to god standard controller!
I would like to see 3D World next it's the only one i haven't played, and ofc Galaxy 2 :D

Interesting. For most of the Wii catalog I feel the same, but for the Galaxy games specifically I can't imagine playing with a regular controller. Catching all those little scattering confetti bits with a wag of the wiimote was intuitive as hell.

super mario galaxy on da ps2
Or Xbox 360 with Kinect. 😎

The game got a 97 on Metacritic, which was one of the higest scores for any game during the entire decade! And that's with Wii motion controls, which everyone else loved. I guess some people don't like anything that is too physical, and waving a Wiimote apparently qualifies. 😓

Even though the obvious thing to aim for is completely modern controls(no motion required), it's gonna be interesting to see how some of the motion-based levels will be handled.
Also curious if mouse controls will essentially be the IR pointer solution for star bits pickup(gonna be delightful for my steam deck's trackpad)

Holy shit, rare chibimofo W

Don't release shit until it's done.
I don't think any of these decomps have had even a hint of legal trouble. It's all cleanroom

What a decomp frenzy, this is so good to see!

Still, I have a pretty big grudge against Galaxy, I find that the gravity gimmick was really badly executed for what could have been a great platformer. I continue to salivate at the thought of a Sunshine decomp, it was the perfect game for me, and a decomp could do wonders for mods.

I don't necessarily disagree with you as i enjoyed them as well (at first, same with Galaxy 2), through subsequent playthroughs i've found myself wishing for regular controller support, or when i just wasn't in the mood for it, hence my previous post.

That is beside the point, think of like Twilight Princess, if not for the GC version having controller support it would've suffered same fate as Skyward Sword -and i enjoyed it as well, for the most time, apart from the aforementioned Wiimote issues- why they didn't include controller support in the TP Wii version because they were selling you the idea that playing wiimotes & nunchunks is better (through that whole generation), and including controller support would certainly be jeopardize that. and you could say Galaxy is a unique game and wouldn't work without the wiimote, but i disagree, just put aim to the right thumbstick and et voila, everything else can be assigned to buttons. so i stand corrected

Now this is something that I've been waiting for, a decompilation project that's been actually coded by humans, for humans. HOWEVER, I will have to say that AI did have a use in this project:View attachment 592876

I find this completely fine. I personally would like to know what they mean by "code cleanup," but otherwise I find this to be incredible. The Knuckles Chaotix and the Sonic the Fighters ones that had more AI influence came out to be worse than emulating the originals
Probably used AI to help wrap the Wii graphics API to whatever this supports. If I had to guess.

I really hope they can bind a good controller schema with a gamepad. Super Mario Galaxy is fun but it's really weird to play with a gamepad because it was designed for Wii remote

Doesn't matter. The RE GTA decomp didn't either but Rockstar knew they could SLAPP the devs with legal fees they knew couldn't afford.
