Hacking New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I have an Argon 1.1 chipped 4.1U wii and I was finally able to get it running through the disc channel.

That was over an hour ago, still no freezing or DRE so I can confirm it works well for me.

Here is what I got on my machine:
a patched IOS60 v6174
a patched IOS53 v5406
cIOS 0.38 v14
1:1 USA NSMBW copy (by QwiiF)
a Patch for the game (NSMBW USA main.dol FiX Wii-iND)
update removed

Before that, I was able to get it working through NeoGammaR7 (without needing to change settings) with:
a patched IOS60 v6174
a clean IOS53 v5406 (NUS downloader)
cIOS 0.38 v14
scrubbed PAL NSMBW (375M) patched using alt.dol method (NSMBW_FIX) and changed region to USA

So.. was anyone with a D2CKey able to play the game from the disc anyhow?

Tried most of the methods here and I always get a green screen.. starting to think the problem is related to the modchip.. :/

AFAIK i've got a D2CKey. Game loads but crashes after 10 mins through the disk channel (clean ISO, 4.2 virgin)

SOftmodded using the guide, using cIOS rev 14 and neogamma (latest) it works fine. Still crashes after 10 mins through the normal disk channel.

I can't even get it started with my Wiikey V1.
I get an instant DRE with the message to eject my disc etc.

If I use Neogamma it works like a charm.

also, just a theory, has anyone tried using memory card reader, plug in their memory sticks (i have one 16 gigs and one 8 gigs) and put the iso into the memory sticks, then plug the memory stick into memory card reader into the usb port of wii....will this trick work for usb launcher technique? (i heard pluggin in psp (yep...sony psp) into usb port of wii also works....)

Hello all. Here some info.

- Wii 3.4u system menu
- No custom IOSs
- No IOS53-v5406 (at least I didnt installed the WAD, nor did any DVD/Internet update)
- D2CKey Modchip
- New_Super_Mario_Bros_Wii_USA_Wii-QwiiF ISO.
- NeoGamma R8 beta 12.

The disc channel asked for update. Ignored it and went to HBC. There I loaded neogamma. It complained that I didnt have the IOS 23?(cant remember which one, but, as I said, no custom IOS here). Loaded the dvd disc, without messing with any configs.
play play play until first sub castle without any glitch or error.

Wow, I can't believe this. I'm too stupid for Wii hacking.

I updated to 4.2U via xzxero's guide (thanx btw)
I patched the game with the main.dol/ImagePatch fix
Installed cIOS rev 15 (already had rev 14 installed)
Installed Hermes cIOS 222
Installed uLoader 3.1

And still get a green screen reboot. I'm just going to buy an actual copy and hope it doesn't disable homebrew. And I can't use NeoGamma anymore because I get 001 errors. Thanx Nintendo

Use neogamma. greenscreen is video misconfigurarion (pal/ntsc, etc)

Summary, @davepm:

Hardmod - You still need to use a loader!

Softmod - You CANNOT play from DVD!

Green Screen - Try a different loader!

Black/white/jumping - Learn to set your region settings properly!

Blacks Screen - Have you installed The IOS?

WiiScrubber - Partition bad - Make sure you have run the makekey.exe!

NTSC - Check the guide again as there is a new patch for QwiiF release.

When I turn on my wii, with nsmb backup inside, I had blac screen with disc error just after pressing A to start the wiimote.

I need to turn on without the disc, start hbc and now I can put the disc without problem and start one loader.

Why this happens? What should I do?

Hello. I have Neogamma r8 beta 11 and I installed ios53, ios55, and ios 61 and cIOS 38 rev15 and I still got error 001. No, I dont have modchip.. just softmod. What's the problem ? I can run newest Naruto Shippuden Clash Ninja Revolution 3 USA just fine.

Question:

I have a hardmodded wii (wiikey)
I don't have a network connection (no wireless around )

How (and possibly where) can I get my wii in the proper state (homebrew channel, USBloader etc) without a network?:S

Every file (for the SD card) that I find is "only useable when using a network connection)

Also, I checked a lot of sites, and those are either explaining the basics of installing homebrew OR talking about (for me) complex matters. Should anyone know a step between, please give me a link.

I know this'll probably get flamed, because I'm a n00b and I should search better etc....well sorry

I read in another thread if you "patch" it, it will run off a backup disk.

I am tired of this 165 pages for no reason what so ever.

Get cios rev 15 and uloader 3.1. Start up uloader 3.1 (you dont need HErmes cios222 because NSMB uses 249). Play it either through USB or DVD.

I have a 3.3U softmodded Wii and have been playing though a burnt disc for a long time now.

The front page has some mistakes Neogamma will NOT run this game softmodded with cios rev15. Neogamma runs ZERO games through cios rev15. Rev 15 broke neogamma.

This cios stuff is head battering to us that just used modchips like D2ckey. Every game apart from this one has just worked, scrubbed, full games, trucha games, just burn and go.

It's like going back to school reading through all of this, so many tutorials, I tried installing cios rev 15 and I got an install error 2011.

edit: it looks like I've lost the trucha bug after running safe updater 4.2. I thought it said in the readme that you wouldn't lose it.

I need someone with hardmodded wii, with no cIOS installed or hacked IOS.
I think NSMB is using the IOS259 to run so everyone who have the hacked IOS259 will get the "Please eject your disk and restart the Wii".

more likely they don't care as most switch to usb loaders, which work fine with this game..

heh, I've just installed rev 15 now, how do I install rev 14, just run it from Homebrew Channel and it will change 15 to 14?
