Hacking New R4/M3 redesign... 2nd Batch released

Looks like first batch buyers aren't missing out on too much, only the ones who got faulty card readers. All they're doing is stopping the ability to do the R4/M3 conversion, switching out the card holder to a new one without the chain (I actually like the current one with the chain, looks nice with my key set

), and changing the card reader (which they've already done once iirc).

Doesn't seem like a huge diffrence. I like it as an R4 anyways... though in there post they said they were able to get them for 29$... now i wish i knew about that!

the R4DS i got last week was batch 1 PCB and it came with

1 R4DS (White)
1 R4DS Replacement case (Black)
1 Mini CD w/firmware and skins
1 Blue Card Reader (Blue LED)
1 Card Holder (holds 2 Games)
1 Blue Strap (can be connected to your NDS or Card Holder)

Actually yours is from the second batch, the first batch doesn't come with the blue strap and the card holder had a chain in the first batch. The new batch that just came out actually comes with the same freebies as yours, but with the new redesigned R4 DS. You got lucky and ordered yours just before the new batch.

YUP, they were probably getting rid of all the old designed R4 DS first, before putting in the newly redesigned R4 DS in the new package.

I'm sure there will be no drop in sales. only DS-X can acomplish destroying there quality and reputation with a hardware update. I have no idea of stats but i bet R4 and M3 are the top selling slot-1 solutions and will continure to do until there's something else better on the market.

@Sgad yeah mine came with all of batch 2 goodies with a batch 1 unit... no complaints though (I got mine through Modchipstore before they temporarly sold-out)

Actually yes and no. Some of my buyers might not want to buy the R4 DS anymore, but I still have more M3 DS simply that are from the first batch for them to buy. It just sucks that very one wants an R4 DS, I can't seem sell all of my SCDS 1.

I got mine from modchipstore.com as well, right around when they first started selling the R4 so I got batch 1 goodies and PCB. Like aslacker55 said, they probably wanted to get rid of all the batch 1's. Batch 1 goodies:

You should know by now that R4 and M3 Simply are made in the same factory

R4 makes them and sells them
M3 Buys them from R4 and put there name on it and sells it a bit more expensive

So it was easy enough to find out about the bridging/debridging to switch a R4 into a M3 Simply and Vica Versa.

It prolly went a bit like this:

M3 complains cause everybody is gonna buy a R4, cheaper and you can convert it in a M3
So Why buy the more expensive M3?
R4 removes the points and only leaves the language bridged, changing this won't hurt sales.
R4 Increases there price so it's almost equal to the M3.
R4 does a win win situation, it's not possible anymore to switch between the 2 versions
and gets higher profit from there R4 sales, It doesn't matter if M3 sells more and R4 less, it's all in there pocket!
Corrupt Retailers can't buy a large stock of R4 anymore to convert to M3 Simply and sell them as the higher priced M3 Simply (Copying the label and relabeling it) to gain more proffit.

More stuff you should know!
R4 gets always as first there update, a few days later M3.
What will M3 do when the bring there own M3 DS Real and slot1 G6 series?
Would M3 just leave the firmware updates for there M3 Simply into the hands of R4?
We don't know, I don't care really

Conclusion:
It really doesn't matter if you have a R4 or M3 Simply, i bet you will see support for both cards for some time (or should i say, till better ways or found!), Switching between them has no proffit in speed and performance.

I like the chain in the first ds cart holders

The blue TF reader also feels and looks crappy

The metal one Runs To hot when in use :/
Ok, I like the blue wriststrap BUT now Nintendo is sending AGAIN (yeah i recieved 4 replacements and 2 weeks later suddenly another 4 new ones where in my post) replacement WiiStraps, i took a Wii strap to hang on my DS Lite and DS it actually feels way stronger then the original

Just ordered 3 for my mates - Hope they're batch2 to be honest, none of them could wield a soldering iron or even know what an M3 is and I'd rather they got the non-melty microSD reader.
