So I was reading some new trademarks for games today, and one caught my eye- Super Mario Collection. Now, apparently this was what Mario Allstars was called in Japan (not 100% sure about that), so this could be a VC release. But we'll see.

Nintendo wouldn't release Super Mario All-Stars for the VC. It would either A) Cost way too many points. 4 NES games = 2000 points, way too much for any VC game, and B) If it would be like even 1000 on the VC, it would make Nintendo lose money. And everyone knows Nintendo loves money.

I'm just taking a stab in the dark, but Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy collection? They have the Metroid Prime collection, why not a Mario one? And if they can't do SM64, then Sunshine, Galaxy, and NSMB Wii.

Nintendo wont do a 2D collection of oldies, not when they can easily just hock them for a lot of money on VC and save on development, distrubution and hardware costs. I wouldn't be suprised if when they eventually do VC on DSi that they have NES/SNES etc on it but are serperate to the Wii VC so that a Wii VC game wont be able to be played on DSi.

This could be three things:
1. Just a VC release of Super Mario Allstars. The NES VC games have sold extremely well so pretty much anyone who wants them would already have them. Some people however will want the SNES remakes so would happilly pay again. If this happens critics will go "oh wow Nintendo are really being kind to us" when really they're just doing what Capcom did with their Streetfighter 2 VC relelases. It'll probably be 1500 points and they'll claim its a real good deal seeing that the NES games will cost 400 points together (can you still get Lost Levels on VC?) and that the games have "better" graphics.

2. A Metroid Prime Trilogy style release featuring two GC Mario games (Sunshine and Paper Mario 2? Or maybe one of the lesser titles or even just Sunshine). I find this least likely seeing that Mario Sunshine would sell a lot better than any of the "New Play Control" titles. Also I dont see Mario 64 on there, they'll just try to keep selling Mario 64 instead.

3. They're just updating trademarks with no plans for a new Super Mario Collection at all.

To be fair though, the same logic doesn't apply to a game like Kirby Super Star Ultra. A total remake that might have actually made more logical sense prior to release had it been a simple VC release. Instead, they chose to overhaul the game. A game with a somewhat similar premise to Mario Allstars due to the collection of games held within. New graphics, music pieces, games, movies, whatever. It took them almost a year to release the remake too.

So to be honest, this looks like a VC release. The Japanese version of Mario Allstars IS indeed called Super Mario Collection. There is little room for doubt there. I just wanted to add in my thoughts about the whole remake/VC thing.

It could be remakes of the original Super Mario Bros. Next year marks the 25th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. in US and Japan. That's a landmark. If NSMB Wii goes well, they could just remake Super Mario Bros. with co-op, extra features, etc.
