Once upon a time, the original Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube were slated to get a StarCraft game. Announced in 2002, the title, StarCraft: Ghost was set to be an action-stealth third-person shooter video game, and was developed by Nihilistic Software. Developmental issues eventually lead to Blizzard delaying the game, and the project was moved to a new developer: Swingin' Ape Studios. That wasn't enough to save the game, though, and it was put on indefinite hold in 2006, and officially, finally, canceled years later in 2014.

And so, StarCraft: Ghost joined the legions of vaporware and canceled video games throughout the ages, never to be experienced by the public. Except, someone seems to have gotten their hands on a playable, unfinished build of the game, posting videos along with the actual Xbox beta itself. YouTube videos of StarCraft: Ghost are getting removed on a continual basis, though that hasn't stopped users from uploading droves of gameplay footage, which can be seen below.

Supposedly, this build came from a dev kit Xbox console, which has been dumped, and is available online on certain websites.

I grabbed the leak, but haven't had a chance to put it on my XBOX. I think it looks pretty good myself, I probably would've played it had this ended up released.

    Rename 'Ghost.xbe' to 'default.xbe'.
From 'games' section under UnleashX, it can be run from the file explorer.

Have they never played a video game before? Cos they really sucked at the end.

Also, am I the only one who heard a gonk droid in the video?

From what I've seen only two levels are playable, with a fair amount of bugs/missing assets. Would be awesome if some dedicated modders took it upon themselves to finish the game as best they can.

Last I heard, all levels in the build are playable on an upgraded system. Granted I've not seen videos to back this claim.

It was found on a dev kit, would make sense if it required dev kit style specs rather than retail.

Yeah, various people who have the build have said you'll need to do the 128mb RAM mod to play most of the content in the dev build.

Which is actually fairly easy, assuming you're decent at soldering. Just have to acquire 4 RAM chips (which can be pulled from another Xbox) and solder them into the preexisting pads on the mobo. Used to mainly be used for playing some Sega arcade games like Virtua cop 3 or House of the Dead 2.

Well, I managed to find a copy and get it running on CXBX reloaded. Performance isn't too bad if you use some speed hacks, but advancing in the game is very finnicky. A bluish-purple skybox slowly took over the whole first level, and with all the ground textures gone I had no idea where to go next. Decent core gameplay though, could've been the next Metroid Prime if Blizzard hadn't been so split on which direction to take the game in.

I most definitely have no soldering skills, and unfortunately I am not close to anyone with a background in Xbox modding to assist me. I really want the mod done.

This isn't something I would play, but this is an interesting find. So many of those are still out there, waiting to be discovered... Hopefully, we'll have a large catalog of games once thought extinct that are now finished and playable.

I remember hearing about this game for YEARS as a little kid getting super pumped with all my friends over text chat while we played Zerg Jailbreak and Dragonball Z.
