New kit from the eWin team! Slot 1 flush card, micro SD slot,

ewin3.gif
The renowned eWin team have finally unveiled their entry to the slot 1 DS backup kit market - the eWin 3. The eWin 3 is a flush fitting, slot 1 cart that supports micro SD (aka. transflash) memory cards. Here's a few things we already know about this upcoming cart:
  • [*]Works on ANY DS unit (even unflashed)[*]Supports clean ROMs via drag and drop[*]Uses FAT format on micro SD card (FAT16/32 TBC)[*]Fits flush[*]Available in many different colours[*]"Supports" slot 2 memory/rumble paks
No more is currently known about the card, other than the fact it will be released this month. Also no price has yet been set, but the eWin team are known for their great value for money.

Â
The eWin team also announced, that alongside the eWin 3, they will release their own branded rumble and memory expansion paks as an alternative to the official Nintendo ones, these are estimated to be priced at around only $6!

Expect more news on the eWin 3 and accessories soon on GBAtemp.netSource: Level Up

Dang, look at the build quality! I have one of them DS Dummy Cards of Ewin lying around, and the casing of those is very good as well. Compared to the first batch DS-X molds (it's apparently fixed now) this looks very nice to me. Now hoping it doesn't suffer slowdowns or has any lame filesystem/savetype hassle shit to it.

I really really really hope it supports download play to non-flashed DSs.

- Sam

Yeah, I'm still waiting for a good transflash slot 1 solution that has 100% DS compatibility that supports download play fully.. (aka a better DS-X) since the Acekard didn't quite live up to its claim.

basically these are the features I (everyone) wants:

-100% DS game compatibility (no half-working or slow games)
-Full nonflashed download play support
-Full automated save support (without problems and corruptions etc.)
-Excellent homebrew compatibility (moonshell etc)
-built in passme (so GBA games can be played on a slot 2 flashcart)
-Working standby when DS is folded shut while on
-Patch free drag and drop
-Fair price

I don't know if it's too far fetched to hope for something this perfect, but it seems like they are getting pretty close (ds-x, acekard, ninja x9, etc.)
I'll cross my fingers and keep waiting

To play GBA ROMs from a slot-2 flashcard you won't need slot-1 NoPass functionality.

But I agree that the function to boot slot-2 cards into DS mode is part of the 'perfect' solution.

A feature I think you forgot is that the perfect solution should use removable media in the form of MicroSD

Great, another slot-1 card. So how many do we have untill now?
DS-Xtreme, NinjaPass X9, MicroNinja(with its two versions), AceKard, eWin, N-Card, original NinjaPass, and probably a few more that I forgot...
This onslaught of Slot-1 cards needs to stop >_

You know all those things aren't that impractical, and I think DSX owners...are a little bit worried

As a DS-X owner I can say I'm not worried at all. In fact I'm excited to see all these new Slot1 solutions coming to market. Especially the ones with removable storage, since that was the one thing I would have liked to change on the DS-X.

I can't wait to see the GBATemp review of this card.

This might be the slot 1 card I'll finally sink my money into... although I'm perfectly happy with my M3 to be honest. We'll see. Build quality seems pretty cool from those shots, so...

What is there for them to worry about? That the pride in having bought an ultra-expensive slot 1 flash solution might go away? Well... I s'pose some of them might worry about that, but I'd say most don't care -- they're just interested in high compatibility and easiness of use.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
