Gaming need some catching up on the psp scence

I have been out of the PSP scene for awhile and need some catching up. (I have been focused on the WII and 360)
I finally updated my psp to 5.00 m33-6 before i was on the one that added psn.
I thought with all the cool games coming out I would dust off my psp, so I grabed soul calibur, gran turismo, and motorstorm.
None of these worked so I did some research and found they needed to be patched so I patched all of them using umdgen.
Gran Turismo works, soul calibur will load but freezes.
So I did so more research I learned that Dark Alex has taken a break and his firmware no longer works and that I have to update to 5.50 gen a then gen b.
So could any one answer my question and help me get caught back up.

Well my question is do I have to update to the new cfw (gen a,b,c,d) to play the new games and is m33 dead.

As of now you can patch iso to play on m33. So far no updates expected.
You have to update to gen if you want to play isos without patching.

Both Soul Calibur and Gran Turismo is running fine on my PSP 2004 Slim Silver with 5.00 M33-6 on it, and unless Tekken 6 is not going to work, I don't see any reason to upgrade to GEN, atleast for me, as I run a lot of different homebrew.

This patch only works at Soul Calibur EU. US/JP versions are unplayable.

Yeah... But since I can't see any difference between the US and EU version (Except for the EU version may have more languages then English, not sure). Just use that one. : )

hehe i experienced an EU gran turismo to be not patchable / playable but the US version does just fine even w/out patching for some reason (afaik it was a not pre-patched version)

GEN D is out tonight (8pm GMT+1)
Hopefully it hasnt got that much bugs in it, seems rushed tbh
