When I try to backup the NAND, it freezes at 90-100%. When it did work, it said that the dump is for a different wii. Is there any way to fix these problems. I do not want to use preloader or anything else, because I am scared about bricking. My wii is on version 4.0U and I do have the homebrew channel.

Use a different SD card. There have been reports that some SD cards will give you the "different Wii" error. And in some other cases the card needed to be reformatted. You can try formatting first (use the Panasonic formatter) and if that fails try another SD card. I used a standard 2GB Sandisk and backup and restore went without a hitch.
