US? http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ is an alright site. Most "normal" name brand companies won't put a good video card (which is the deciding factor for gaming) in a sub-$1000 PC, and when they do it's often a low-end model.

Go look through the configurators, your main focus will be a good video card. See here for a rough comparison of video cards. Something around the 1,300 and up mark is what you want (something 1,500 or so should do just fine with high settings on modern games).

Don't be afraid to choose a simpler case and skimp out on some extras in order to be able to afford a good video card, power supply (550-600W should be what you need, the PSU icon will turn red when you go over the recommended power draw for the standard PSU they include with the build), and remember you'll need an operating system as well (page 3 of the build list), it's not always included.

For the love of god do not get the cheapest shipping, the computer might break on it's way to you.

There are a lot of good places to buy prebuilt desktops. Since you probably want a high end graphics card and processor for gaming try several sites that let you have a great amount of custimization such as xoticpc, Magic Micro Computers (might of changed) , cyber (posted above) ,ava direct and several other great sites.
