My PS4 cannot connect to my router, even though it's both 2.4 and 5ghZ. Recommendations?

Just moved into a new place. The router Spectrum provided does not work with my PS4.

I called customer service and they told me to just turn in my router and buy a new one.

Does anyone know of a decent router that isn't like two hundred bucks that will just let me connect online with my PS4?

I don't play online. I don't need a top of the line router. Just something to get onto the PSN with.

Thanks for any help. This is why I joined. I hope someone is friendly.

I think only slim or pro work on 5ghz.

Can your ps4 see the router when scanning for connections?
Not at all. I tried to manually enter the settings, and even though it's supposedly a smart dual-band that is supposed to flip in between, still no luck. And I live in the mountains so I can't use my hotspot from my phone. My choices are to buy a new router, ot a big big ass 100-foot ethernet cable and just go hardwire.

You might not be able to hotspot data from your phone, but maybe you could use it as a repeater from the router?

I would look up your router online and see if you can change settings. I got one from spectrum once had no problem finding online a way to get into settings. Fyi model should be on sticker on bottom or back of router.

Never been good with hardware. Software and mods, I can do.

I've tried everything with my phone. Changed all of the settings, all the Mobile APN stuff and all that. Spent an hour on the phone with T-Mobile seeing if they might get me 5G out here.

I think I am just going to have to buy an ethernet cable or a router. Or, the rep I talked to just doesn't know how to get the router to show both signals. I've lived at another place not far from here, and they have both networks showing; 2.4 and 5GHz.

The lady said they changed something about their system, and blamed it on the router.

Nah, I just meant using it by connecting to the router and forwarding that signal.

Hello! Sorry for chiming in so late, here may be a simple solution. I got a new router yesterday from XFinity (Comcast), and my printer and BOTH of my PS Vitas were no longer able to connect with my computer. Like you, my PC could not "see" either of my Vitas, and vice versa. I was going nutz until I thought to myself that the network itself HAS to be the problem, and I was lucky enough to find a solution. I am running Windows 10. If you are running a WINDOWS platform, please take a sec to look at this:

1) As pictured below, on your taskbar , you'll see your internet connection icon that looks like a little computer monitor. CLICK ON THIS ICON. When you do, you'll see your internet connection for both ethernet and WiFi.

2) When you click on this, you'll see your network connection, on top is your ethernet connection, and below you SHOULD see your Wi-Fi connection. Click on the ETHERNET connection (on top), NOT your Wi-Fi connection.

3) You will be brought to your Ethernet's connection. Again, click the name of your ethernet connection, which will bring us to our final step...

4) This brings us to our Network Profile page. I'm betting that your setting under this profile is "Public", and not "Private". A PUBLIC connection will not allow any devices to see your network, but a PRIVATE connection says the following: "For a network you trust, such as at home or work. Your PC is DISCOVERABLE and can be used for printer and file sharing if you set it up".

5) Select PRIVATE. Your console should now be visible to your PC. If needed, restart your PC.

That's all folks!!!

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
