So it's a long story but I got this xbox console at goodwill back in december for 30 dollars and it came with a bag and everything I was shocked and picked it up. When I got home I plugged it in turned it on and it worked just fine even came with a copy of halo ce. Then I noticed it wouldn't read cds, as the light would just flash. I just forgot about it and kept playing it. Then this month I went to go play some Sonic Heroes and noticed it wouldn't read. So I tried to play halo but it still would not read. So I took it apart cleaned the drive/motherboard(it was dirty) but it still wouldn't read anything. So I left it alone for a while and turned it on a few days ago and it red ringed. I've tried very thing i could find but I can't get rid of that stupid red blinking light(not frag). Anyone think they can help?

hmm strange one...
* draws pentagram and summons @DinohScene *

usually the error codes are:

Solid red, overheated.
Flashing green, bad bios load.
Flashing red-orange, bad video output.
Flashing orange-green, AV cable not plugged in properly.
Flashing red-green, system failure

Is it softmoded or hardmoded ?
My old xbox had 2 bios loaded on the same chip (first model) when I softmoded it
I had a switch in the back for original/softmoded

I am not able to find any fix for the red blinking light issue. So far I put new thermal compound on it. Removed the clock compactor and cleaned it.

What should I do then?
Without having modded it, I don't think there's much you can do. I doubt you have an eeprom backup. In which case you would need an eeprom from another system, which would require soldering and relocking the HDD. But any system you would get it from would probably be in working condition, which defeats the purpose.

I too think @DinohScene should check this out. AFAIK he still plays with these things. Might know something I don't.

it may not be necesarily broken. it can be a cold join on the eeprom chip. try running some fresh solder on the eeprom chip. best of luck.
also that is NOT your eeprom. that is you tsop packet in your picture
nvm i am blind. yeah try reflowing the solder points on it though
