in this case its a bit different. the original xbox doesnt usually suffer from cold joints under the processor. with this, you are also reflowing directly with a soldering iron so you may get way better results. (also you would only be fixing 8 soldering poins as opposed to dozens.I once heatgunned a 360 mobo. It worked for a week.
I've tried that too but it didn't workI once heatgunned a 360 mobo. It worked for a week.
Yeah I've fixed 2 Xbox 360s in the last monthin this case its a bit different. the original xbox doesnt usually suffer from cold joints under the processor. with this, you are also reflowing directly with a soldering iron so you may get way better results. (also you would only be fixing 8 soldering poins as opposed to dozens.
Yeah there is nothing on screen no matter what I do but one thing I want to do is get the black plastic that holds the heatsink down off because I accedently got compound on the traces there and I wonder if that's whats effecting itWhatever these fools tell you about reflowing, do not do that.
You cause way more harm that way and it's not a permanent fix.
Have you removed the DVD drive/HDD and checked if a different error pops up?
If you're not getting any error code then I'm afraid your box is done for.
As you said, you picked it up for 30 quid, they're not that expensive anymore.
It was some normal cheap compound from best buy I got for around 6 dollars. If it's electrically conductive compound (Arctic silver and other rubbish) then it might affect it.
Doubt it tho as traces are protected by a tiny layer.
You certainly can try it, thing is already broken basically.
It's under this thing here. I don't know how to remove it I guess. It's also by the gpu so that could be causing my video problems.I have a feeling your box is fucked.
But clean the compound off and try again.
What do I do to remove itRemove it with isopropyl alcohol.
See if you can remove the plastic cage from the underside of the mobo.
It has these tabsTake the motherboard out of the xbox and inspect the bottom side, the cage could be removable.
I took it off and there was alot of compound was on the traces so I probably fucked it up. I don't even how it would turn on.You can take some pliers and carefully apply some pressure to squeeze them together, then pop it downwards and out.
Yeah still red ringsHave you cleaned everything and reassembled it yet?
Yeah well I will see what I can do with this xbox. But I may need to get a new oneThen I'm pretty sure it's FUBAR.
Perhaps you might be able to get it working again if you install a modchip (BIOS corrupt or w/e) but in all honesty, it's financially wiser to get another Xbox.
