Is it possible to completely mod the wii without a GC controller?

For the installation of the MIOSpatcher I needed a GC controller , I don't know if there's another way to do it

Except bootmii IOS, everything can be installed without GC controller

I thought you could use the power and reset buttons on the wii to navigate the bootmii menu... also, you need a gamecube controller to run mios patcher. But all mios patcher does is allow you to play backup gamecube games, so if you are planning on doing this, you most likely already have a gamecube controller lying around.

Buttons on the wii can only be used with bootmii as boot2, not bootmii IOS

This sentence is a bit confusing "Backup the "Bootmii" folder elsewhere and erase from the sd card. [or rename it.]" I launceh Bootmii from HBC, made my way to the nand backup (green arrow pointing from chip to SD card. launched it succesfuly, ran it succesfully but it dosent save anything it seems bootmii dosent start when i run my wii, even the red arrow says i dont have any nand backups. SOo my question is this I have to delete Bootmy folder from MY SD before i run the Nand backup creator and where do i back up my bootmii folder? What do you mean by elsewere? Any help would be super, and i know you have lots of noobs here, if you have any free time please help me. Or anybody who knows how to help mee. Thankas again!

Got 2 questions :
unsure.gif

1 - I 've followed the guide to the end...successfully
grog.gif

But now, can i uninstall "bootmii as IOS" or not ?
Cause i don't know how to backup my nand if my wii don't boot on bootmii screen...(the one with icons)

2 - What about the boot.dol (cios38rev14) after install is complete ?
Do i have to keep it ? or i put back the dol of the cboot2 ?

Do not uninstall BootMii, make sure your SD card is inserted, the BootMii folder is on the root of the SD card, start your Wii and BootMii will start up. In there, use the Wiis front buttons to navigate through the menu. You want to go to the gears symbol(go there with power, enter with reset) and start the option where the arrow goes to SD card(this will backup your Nand).

The 38rev14 dol can be deleted from the SD card.

I've deleted the boot.dol...

But i don't have the menu screen of bootmii2 , when i start my wii, bootmii is only black an wrote:

"cboot2 DOL loader v16
IOS36
IOS successfuly load..."

screen trying to start a boot.dol and saying :

"Error : failed to open boot.dol "
"Failed to load boot.dol from SD card reader"

...and it roll again and again reading files of my SD card...

...same thing when i try to launch bootmii from HBC...

i missed something i think...
I've installed "bootmii as IOS" and "Bootmii as boot2", both of them successfully...

May i have to put the original boot.elf of hackmii or something else ?

loving the guide but need help at Post #649

ok i read about sometihing on this topic and found that i have to backup Bootmii folder and keys.bin and nads.bin on my comp.

1.Do i keep the bin files on my SD card root? What do i do with the .bin files/Where do i use them?
2.Should bootmii start up right after powering up my wii, when i did the nand backup and got the files and did the deletion of Bootmii folder on the SD card?

Thank you in advance!

Kal El, currently the files you have in your bootmii folder on your SD card are set to boot to cboot2, and since there isn't a boot.dol in the root of your SD card, it's not loading anything. To fix this, rename the bootmii folder bootmii_cboot2 (if you want to use cboot2 again, rename it bootmii again). Now you wii will load normally, however if you want to boot to bootmii, you need to copy the bootmii folder that was created when you installed bootmii to the root of your SD card. If you forgot to back this up, you can recreate it by reinstalling bootmii (no need to uninstall it, just install it again). Now you will have a bootmii folder in the root of your SD card that has a bootmii.ini file in it. This bootmii.ini file tells bootmii what to load (system menu, homebrew, or bootmii... the default is bootmii). To change the settings of the bootmii.ini file, download the app bootmii configurator and run it via homebrew. Or you can edit the file manually with a text editor on your pc if u know what your doing, also there is a PC app called bootmii.ini creator (I think, its called something like that, it's bundled with wiitools1.7).

I hope this helps!

margus, you only need the nand.bin file on your SD root when/if you intend on restoring your nand. If this file isn't there, it wont work. It's recommended saving it somewhere else because this is your lifeline if your wii bricks (ie. don't lose it!).

read my response in post 652 to answer your other questions (read the whole thing, the second half answers your Q on how to configure the way bootmii starts up)

Okei, cant thank you enough! I made my way to step 4] I selected the correct iso then selected Boot from SD/Micro SD and then selected wii SD slot but gives error ret-1. no brick tho.

There are a lot of different installation guides, which guide are u using (otherwise step 4 means nothing to me). I'm assuming your trying to use wad manager... I don't understand what you mean by selecting the correct iso, are you sure you mean ISO (as in a disk image file)? I think (not 100% off the top of my head) that error -1 has something to do with a missing sd card or incompatible sd card, if you are using a sdhc card try using a normal one. If you google it you can probably find a SD card compatability list, but Sandisks are the best.

If you're using wad manager 1.5, make sure you select IOS 249 (ooooh, you must have mean ios not iso!!). For this to work, make sure you've already installed ios38 (cios249) from step 2. Make sure your wads are saved in the the following folder (SD:/WAD), make sure the sd card is properly inserted BEFORE running the app.

this is just the boot.dol for wadmanager 1.4, you can google it and download it, then just save the boot.dol in the root of your SD. Hope this helps.

ok 2 last questions :/

1.Preloader asks for haks.ini all the time, should i put it in the root of my SD card and keep it there?
2.Having al little trouble installing Neogamma r7.wad with wad manager, could use a great guide for that like this one was, i cant thank you guys enough for the information.

You only need the preloader hacks.ini file to install/uninstall preloader hacks, the hacks will continue to work even when the SD card is not in the wii. Make sure you get the right hacks.ini file for your region and firmware (ie. 4.1U). There isn't any reason to remove the file from the root of your SD card, it doesn't take up a lot of space.

k, here's a quick tutorial on using wadmanager 1.5 (from memory). Run wadmanager 1.5 via homebrew, hit A to continue, choose ios 249 (default), choose to disable nand emulation (default), choose where to load from (wherever you have your wads saved, probably your sd card slot), then a list of wads should load, if it doesn't, make sure that you have all your wads saved under the following directory (SD:/WAD). Then choose a wad (up and down), hit A to select it, then left and right to choose between uninstall and install, make your selection then hit A. If you are getting this far but experiencing an error when trying to install a WAD, try a different WAD, it could be you downloaded a corrupt wad.

Thanks for your help !!!

Everything works perfectly !!!

Now, i've my backup nand... :

But for now, gecko 1.9 seems not to see all my iso backups games... i'm going to try with neogamma r8
