you can always try to install StartPatch for the hacks, people say its better, although I couldn't install it myself due to some error I have not yet figured out.
As long as you have BootMii as boot2, you can try whatever you want: cIOSCORP for instance.

if you are on 4.1, the Wii Sports Resort update simply install IOS 55, that is required for some reason. And yes, you can first update via nintendo to 4.1 and then follow this guide (I did it myself).

starPatch you say. and this will have hacks available for my japanese wii?

and is starpatch basically the same as preloader ( what are the differences, if any?)

yes, there is a japanese version. the difference is "Because this wont let the disc spin forever in the the drive. However if you use Preloader for auto-booting to the HBC then sorry, this is for System Menu hacks only." Just get it from http://wiibrew.org/wiki/StartPatch and try it out.

Two questions...both are not answered in the FAQ.

I am trying to restore my NAND from the backup...it says the backup is for a different Wii. What is the problem there?

How do you use NeoGamma R7? The readme that comes with NeoGamma is rather sparse. Here are the NeoGamma settings, could someone explain what they do?

---------------
Main Menu:

Load Game on DVD
Load Games from:

Region Options
Config Options
Rebooter Options
Use Rebooter

Credits
Exit OS
At the very bottom: [Gecko symbol] NeoGamma R7, IOS 249 (Rev 14)
--------------------

Load Games from: , , (press left/right to select between options)
If you change to USB or SD/SDHC, the top line will change to: Press A to Mount WBFS

What is WBFS? Simply a file system the Wii likes to read. I don't know what it stands for. NeoGamma doesn't have tools you need for creating a WBFS partition with games on it. Use a USB Loader for that. USB Loader GX is one that can be found in the OP in this thread. A lot of people like to use USB HDDs due to their large size compared to USB sticks.

When you press A, it will try to load WBFS partition on your selected device. If successful, the top line will change to [Game] from [Region]. If you have more than one game press left/right to select between them.

Region Options:
Boot Lang: [Auto Force/Console Default/Various Languages]
Force Video: [Disc/Wii/Various Video Modes]
Patch Video: [No/Normal/More/All]
VIDTV Patch: [No/Yes]
Patch Country Str.: [No/Yes]

Config Options:
Hook Type: [VI (buggy)/Wii Pad/GC Pad]
Ocarina On: [No/SD (Using cIOS)/SD (Using IOS36)/SD (Using IOS61)/USB (Using cIOS)/USB (Using IOS36)]
Altern. .dol: [No/SD/Disc/USB]
Save Config: [No/Yes]

-----------------------

When I hit "Use Rebooter" I get an error message: "Error Loading Menu" - What could be the problem?
Note: I did not use the guide in the OP. I can follow that guide skipping step 2 only, because I already have HBC, BootMii, and DVDX, is this correct?

You have to run redia's program to fix your backup, it is a small bug with in BootMii beta 3. Just look for a post of mine a few pages back.
Using neogamma is very simple, just insert a backup dvd and select Launch from DVD, it will work most times. For loading from an external disk or SD search for some USB loader tutorial.

also.

I was wondering, if i do decide to install starpatch or cISOcorp 3.3, or both.

if i wanted to remove these at any point how would i go about doing it.

the only reason i mention this, is that currently, after a lot of playing around, the wii is doing about 95% of the things i want it to, i dont want to get greedy and then have things blow up on me a things get worse... but i guess thats what i have bootmii and my nand backup for....

cIOSCORP is very risky to install, it modifies all IOSes in your system, so it may very likely brick your Wii if not used very carefully. I suggest only doing it if you've got BootMii installed as boot2 + a backup. Personally, I have a modchip so I find no need to install it, just installed neogamma for trying it out. Check out some tutorial.

Startpatch is jsut for the hacks, just try it out, its a simple installation.

that's not even a difference anymore. Preloader serves as brick protection and hacks while startpatch is only for hacks.

search for my guide i posted a few days ago. clear step by step explanation with links.

Thanks to user HPacheco. He provided the goods when no one else would.
How to get this info added to the "NAND Backup" section of the guide!? A NAND backup is useless if you can't restore it!

Oh, and here is a link to the BootMii v0.3 NAND Dump Fixer by redia.

I think I am set on the NAND restore. I will try to follow the guide this time (I followed a different guide before). I will let you all know if it works.

First I just wanted to say thanks for this guide, I completed all the steps without issue.

However, i have a strange problem now that i'm on 4.1E.
I'm trying to play WSR Japanese Original.
In Disc Channel, the game is simply not recognized - despite Region Free Wii games being enabled in Preloader.
At first, it wasn't loading in NeoGammaR7 either; it just restarted the machine.
Then, i used DOP-IOS to make sure i had the latest IOS (some i didn't have at all) - 53, 55, 57 and 60.
Now my retail game will load from NeoGammaR7... it played the intro video once, i saved and the next time, the intro video did not repeat, so that's good!

But, does anyone know how i can get my retail disc recognized in the Disc Channel? It's bugging me!

In my first post about this issue:

despite Region Free Wii games being enabled in Preloader.

So that's a yes.. I'm wondering now if having Starfall hacks enabled when i upgraded/installed Preloader is causing some conflict?
Is it worth (or possible) to try StartPatch alongside Preloader?

Awesome, thanks! Apparently, the problem I continually ran into ("Your System Menu is corrupt" thing) was fixed by updating to 4.1u. Your guide was a huge help, and I really appreciate it. Having said that, I'd also like to put out a thanks to the Preloader app thing (I realize this isn't the place, but I wanted to say thanks nonetheless) since I can't install BootMii as boot2.

For me, the guide was well done, and I really appreciate it. The only part that I would clarify would be here:

on this last one, make sure to uncheck pack -> wad

navigate to IOS, IOS 60, choose v6174 and click start NUS Download.

Instead of "on this last one", try "on this next one, which is last,". It's not a big change, and I was able to figure out what you meant, but depending on how you read it, it could be ambiguous. That is, it could have been referring to the one above it (IOS38), depending on how you read it.

I don't think it's a required change, but I point it out in an effort to make sure it's 100% clear, and completely unmistakable. Obviously, take it as you will.

Thanks again for your help. Mouser X over and out.
